So i just replaced the fuel pump and a tensioner, now my SHO starts, runs horrible very low idle.. But there is a knocking.. Sounds like my old SHO did when my Timing belt tensioner went out, my uncle who's a mechanic took a look and said it sounds like a stuck lifter (The car has been sitting for two years) im thinking of using some seafoam to hopefully loosen up the lifter if thats the problem.. Also i'm noticing when i put it in gear the car doesn't go anywhere.. Is it because theres absolutely no power?? if i press the gas it'll move just a tad.. What going on here?? Could a stuck lifter be killing my power that much?

This is a link for a video i took of the engine..

Please tell me its not a bad cam.. Thanks lol

the V8 SHO isn't equipped with lifters...i'd advise against running this car again until the cams get welded.

That doesn't sound like a lifter (tappet). Sounds like a possible cam failure. Take the valve covers off and take a peak.

Sounds like cam(s) or rod bearings to me.

The car isn't moving because there's something going on with the transmission. Check the fluid level, but it sounds to me like the transmission is done as well.

I had a similar trans issue in my old Marauder. It ended up being that water had gotten into the relay and frozen causing it. Just an idea.

It depends on how badly it was damaged. Some can be repaired, but many opt to simply replace the whole thing. If you want to repair it, you'd at least have to remove the affected head(s) and pull the valvetrain.

I made that post somewhat in jest. I'm not a V8 SHO expert, so wait and see what the smarter guys have to say.

Unfortunately you are right, though. It is an interference engine and once the cams are not in the right spots, which is what happens when the sprocket moves, valves, pistons, guides, etc. go at a minimum, and if run that way for long, it gets more stuff bent out of shape as it goes until it all stops. Its not fun.

@stang8985...you did get very lucky!!! I would still have the block check out throughly. If the cam is the only thing that got "hurt", I would definitely check the all the valves and the valve seals in the head. Next thing that you would need is to have your mechanic or find a mechanic that will weld all the cams.

@azmattaz06...there have been cases where the block has been spared from a cam failure. JUST DO NOT TURN THE KEY TO START IT AGAIN.
It is an expensive repair. Have your mechanic pull the engine out and tear it down to check the block, pistons, rods, bearings, and rings. New cams and a weld is in order. While you have the engine, it would be a great time to do a full tune up. Plugs, wires, gaskets, and coils. But definitely get it welded after it is re-build. Good luck.

Pull the valve covers and actually look at the cams before you decide what's wrong with it.
