I use my keyless entry keypad everyday- until last week. I attempted to use it and the keypad would not light, nor unlock the doors. After pushing the buttons a for a few minutes , I was able to get the 8 & 9 combo to lock the doors after several repeated attempts. I have not been able to make it work since. This is the second keypad. The first was replaced under factory warranty with about 50K miles on it after the original key pad, too, ceased operation.

I'm not sure if this is related to the keypad problem, but my interior lights began working intermittently last night. I flicked the botton on the A pillar thinking it may have been stuck. I also tried turning the interior lights on with the dimmer switch without lighting success. I drove the car this morning and the lights work fine now.

Any suggestions?

i know this might sound dumb but the fuse could be going bad. Thats what was happening with my 92...until the fuse just died.

One of the keypad buttons (5/6) stopped working on my old 94 Sable. I thought the keypad needed replaced, so I swapped it out with a known good unit. It still had the same problems. So, using a voltmeter and my EVTM, I was able to determine that one of the wires in the door wire conduit must have broke. I guess the door opening and closing will eventually wear out those wires. I ended up swapping two wires at both ends (wires between the keypad and the keyless entry module in the trunk) so the button (5/6) would work but the keypad illumination would not work.

I think the black ground wire for the keypad is broken on your car similar to my problem. It would keep every button from working...

Find the wiring diagram for your car (search for them, they are listed on this site somewhere) and get a cheap voltmeter. Hopefully you can figure out what is malfunctioning.

What the best way to remove the key pad? Do I have to remove the door panel to get to it or can it be removed from the outside of the door?

Keypad

You do have to remove the door panel to get to the keypad. There should be to bolts on the backside of the keypad.

When my key pad quit working, I had taken it all apart, only to find the black wire was broken. 2 minutes later, Mr. Sodering gun fixed him.

This sounds promising... thanks guys. How many lights are suppossed to light the key pad? Only one is lit and its behind the 9/0 button. I assume there should be at least two lights and possibly a third. Has anyone replaced the lights on these? I figured I would ask so I can fix it while it is removed from the car.
