Ok guys this has happened twice now.

Its a '94 ATX 140k on it....

Alright the situation is the car will start run fine drive fine, about 2 weeks ago we were heading to a party after driving for about an hour i get into town and stop at a light, wait for pedestrians to cross then all of a sudden she starts to stumble and finally just quits. So I crank it over to check and see if the tach moves and it does, pop the hood to check all connections and they are good.

Next i get back in the car and turn the key on and off 3 times to run the fuel pump comes on and goes off every time like normal, car fires up but runs at about 500rpms pretty poorly, if you try any throttle it does nothing and eventually quits again. I could do the key on/off thing again and cycle the pump and it would again idle for about 1-2 minutes then quit. So there happens to be a murrays across the street so i run over get a fuel pump see if i can eliminate the easy. Got something to eat car sat for an hour cooled off i change filter on the side of the road and she fires up and has been running fine since then.

Today girlfriend ran to the store, gets done shopping goes to start car... it starts runs for a second then quits so she trys again same thing. Tries one last time and it goes and she makes it home. She shut the car off and a little bit later for giggles she tried to start it back up and it ran for a second and quit again then she gave up and went in the house LOL Car sat for a few hours I came over to give her my ATX and bring hers to my house so i can figure out whats wrong with it. Car ran perfectly fine for me started right up no burbles nothing.....

So this car has a new fuel filter to say the least LOL Do you think the pump could be on the way out?

Sorry for the long story

My car did the same thing when it ran for 10 mins or so,your Crank sensor is on the way out.Replace it first before going further or you will be getting towed .

CPS; my 93 ATX SHO's started to go right before I sold it years ago. I didn't know what it was at the time but the car would randomly shut off and would be awhile before I could start it. I did some stupid moves to get it going. I'd crank it and it would almost turn over but not quite--after standing on the gas a few times it would fire up, but I had to keep it revved up to 3 or 4k or it'd stall. I'd rev it just enough to keep it from stalling and I'd drop it down into D and hit the gas hard before it stalled. Don't do this unless you want to put another transmission in it. I was stupid at the time, but I figured ****, the whole car is falling apart anyway what's another thing.

Could be a coilpack...that's the easiest to check.

How do you check it? I have another one i can throw on but i wont know if it fixed it unless it starts doing it again. When the CPS goes doesnt it usually throw the tach out of whack or is that the cam sensor?

could be a cam sensor, could be a messed up maf sensor, there could be a lot of things it can be, checking codes is a good start.

Only code i get is 332 EGR B/S and i know its not that causing it because my atx has had the same code for 2 years. Seems to only do it when the engine is hot.

I Guess ill just throw a CPS in swap to my other coil pack and clean the MAF while im at it.

I believe the cam sensor makes the MTX tach jump...Mine is the 94 atx and had the same problem.Do the CPS and gap it also<important..you will need a gear puller for the bottom pulley. I finished the CPS in 3 hours with some help from my mech who let me use his lift. Most of the work is done thru the pass wheel well ..I make his shop free shirts and hats for the use of his garage year round .Great thanx to him...
