Is it normal to consistantly hit the rev-limiter if you are cruising at 60mph and go WOT in drive?

My 94 ATX w/131k miles is doing this...any ideas?

are you hitting the rev limiter at 60? like you floor it to pass and you cant because you immediately hit the limit? if so then no thats not normal. maybe the tranny is not switching gears properly.

Yea, I agree sounds like an ATX prob. Mine always shifts before the rev. limiter kicks in, I have only had it kick in when in neutral, or had it manually in first.

If you're going 60 and punch it, it drops to 2nd and shouldn't even be near redline until you reach 86 mph (if shifted manually). It'll shift to 3rd at about 71 mph (6000 rpm), so it shouldn't hit the limiter. Does the tranny slip before getting into 2nd gear after you punch it? If so it could hit the limiter before the engine gets back down to speed where it should be. Sounds like definate tranny and/or VSS problems. What's the fluid level like and how does it shift from 1-2 under medium throttle?
