For some reason, I keep breaking the top bolt on my motor mount. It won't stay loose, then it finally breaks in half and falls out. When I had the 3.2 swapped in, richard welded a nut back onto the mount, but it's been broke off already.

So....why do I keep breaking my shit, and how do I prevent it?

All or nothing is what I learned about reinforced mounts...meaning...you gotta reinforce all 3 or your engine will twist in the engine bay because the energy from the shift wants to be redistributed to the stock mounts since they have some give. That twisting is a problem for 10mm steel bolts.

Start by reinforcing the rear. Then tighten the shit out of the front bolts and install stop nuts and tighten the shit outa them.

You may need to remove the y-pipe to really get at the top nut with your 15mm(or whatever)

actually, the top nut's now a 14mm with a valve cover bolt washer to keep it from pulling through when I torqued the shit out if it last time. IIRC, when we had the engine out, I think I noticed the rear mount had seperated. Guess it's time to go buy some bolts, some bushings and a few drill bits, huh?

Lol... I had that issue forever trying to put a bolt / nut thru there. Grade 8's were too brittle, and grade 5's never got tight enough. Welding a nut on the back is all I can think of.. maybe step up to a larger bolt?

for real?

I put 4 bolts through both my motor mounts

When i searched awhile back ago, it said it wasn't a good idea to reinforce the tranny mount if the motor mounts were already reinforced

so should i do the tranny mount too?

that don't look too good. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo, let the drilling commence!!

You know you like my clamps.....

That's one of the best things about being a professional cook...the indifference to burns.

and the end result?

I know...I didn't put the bushings in...but then, the rear motor mount mostly compresses anyway, so I'm not too concerned with snapping the bolts off. I'll get the front taken care of eventually, but even just doing that made a world of difference.

Paul....where would I put chain? Wrap it around the manifold or something?

I have mine wrapped around the exhaust manifold. Little easier on the V8 as it there is a hole in the subframe directly below the center point. But in the V6 it should be as close to the motor mount as possible I would guess.

****, half the stuff I do isn't safe. For example, I work in a kitchen....in my kitchen, you're supposed to use kevlar mesh gloves when you cut anything. It's definitately something I should start doing, cuz I bring my own knives and keep them quite literally razor sharp...but there's just something about wearing gloves while I cut...almost like wearing a ****** when I make a few fist babies...just not the right feel.

Good job with the reinforcement :thumb:

Who cares if its not safe when you only put yourself in the danger zone. If the worse happens , you will be the only one to blame. I got my share of crazy unsafe stuff done in the past.
