Due to economic hardship (no job in 7 months), I traded down at the Ford dealer today. I went in with my 12.2K mile SHO to have the grille and tail lights replaced due to peeling chrome. Zero percent interest for 36 months is great if you have a job. Not so much without one. After looking at the new cars and talking over my situation with my Salesman, I decided to go with a 2-year lease (actually my wife is, since she has the A-plan and I'm on unemployment) on a 2011 Fusion (33 mpg) for $200.00/month (vs. $763 for the SHO). I received $30k for the SHO (paid $35k last October) and will receive $6,500 back of my $11k downpayment from the SHO. Not real happy about letting the SHO go, but it's the right decision for now. What made it easier to let it go was that the service department ripped my bumper cover trying to get the old grille out and forgot to order the inside tail lights to replace. This was the best car I have ever owned and I hope to own another someday. It was great having this site and access to everyone's expertise over the past 12 months. Take care and good luck with your SHOs!

Aw that sucks but at least you had it to play with for as long as you did

but can't go wrong with the Fusion. I had one last week for a loaner for a few days and I'd probably have to say it's the best car I've ever driven.

Thats a major Buzz **** man! I know your pain. I just blew my trans and have no money and no job and had to some how scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with the money to get it done.

Fortunately I have made friends who care and were able to give me some work to get the money for it.

Hope you get another one!

If you had to trade down, you did a good one.
You will be just as happy with the Fusion, although you will miss the sheer luxury of the SHO.
Good Luck, and there are better days ahead.

Sorry about your troubles with the job situation Bob. Sounds like you did OK with trading it in. Look at the bright side, when your lease is up on the Fusion, you can get a 2013 SHO with the 400 hp Ecoboost engine!

Sorry to hear of this. I had to do the exact same thing in 2002 with my almost brand new Escape after I lost my job because of those damn dirty terrorists. Luckily, I was able to put 20% down when I bought it. I ended up taking my equity and buying a 93 SHO MTX that just went to the yard this past summer.

You have my sympathy. Hopefully we'll see you again.

Can't go wrong with the Fusion for sure. I traded a 2008 in on the Flex EcoBoost. As everyone else has mentioned, it was hands down the best Ford car I have ever owned. Sorry to hear about your economic woes but keep looking and the corner will turn for you. Pop back in and let us know how things are going and we will keep you in our thoughts.

Thanks to all for the kind words of encouragement. I got to have it for almost a year, so I should be grateful for that. I will still try to get together with other local SHO fans (great bunch of guys!). The Mustang is already put away for the Winter, so I'll be in the Fusion until next Spring. The Fusion is actually a really nice car and will make a great first car for my daughter when she turns 16 in five years.
