Hi, have not posted before, but used lots of advice to bring my newly purchased 91 back on the road.

Ran fair when I bought it. 73,000K miles. Replaced the intake runner hose's with silicone, new plugs and filters, and fluids. Checked valves and timing belt, both ok. Cleaned out the gunk in the intake manifold and EGR passages. Cleaning the EGR got rid of the check engine light. New gas cap. Drove it around a 1000 miles or so to clean everything out.

Finally had to get the CA Smog to complete the registration. I tried to find the spout near the power steering pump, but it is simply not there! I did find the octane shorting plug near the transmission, so I pulled that for the 3 degree timing retard. Could not feel any power differnce, and no lights came on, so I went for it.

Passed: 114 HC .25 CO 700 PPM NOX @ 15 MPH

53 .20 710 @ 25 MPH

That is just squeaking by, but a pass is a pass. The HC is high at 15 MPH, and the NOX is high at both speeds. I may need to find that spout next time!

We have the same tough test and it is always a concern when E-test time comes around. Mileage seems to have nothing to do with it, and new parts don't seem to help. I have had the numbers get worse with new plugs and filters. One of my best passes occurred when I made an appointment for a certain time and just pulled off the highway after a 120 mile trip and pulled right up on the test dyno.
I have to find that spout too!

I really did not think it was going to pass. The guy spent alot of time messing around under the left side of the hood. I think he was checking the vapor can, a new part of the test that most shops are ripping you for $10-15 extra. Since I did not really look at that part of the system, I figured it for a problem.
The girl who wrote up the order didn't know what to do when she tried to move it in the bay. "Oh it's a stick?" Just another old white Taurus to her.

in mass i believe its 1995.... and under doesnt have to pass anymore, the place i go to is great my e brake didnt work and i still got a sticker, the guy did the same thing to mine he asked me whats wrong with this thing wheres the shifter until he realized he was looking in the wrong place. when my jeep was on the road i brought it there with no rear brakes, a wooden front bumper, no e brake, no horn, bad wheel bearings and the Nox was twice what it should have been and the guy put it on the dyno went to hit the brakes to fool the computer and he had to down shift to make it go slower, he looked at me and said "you should get that fixed" and slacked a sticker on it. I think he was sick of seeing me down there though since i'd been failed four times and turned away several times too. Gotta love the if it gets here it gets a sticker rule:laugh_ti:
