Hey,
just got this '91 sho, just popped the hood about 5 minutes ago, all i know is it turns over and doesn't start, and he says he had it running once then never again (he bought it at auction), let me know some stuff to look into eh.

*update* ok so far i have confirmed that the timing belt is not broken, it has spark, and it has fuel pressure/fuel.

well ****, did compression test on the front 3, front left to right, calling them 1-2-3
1 has 0, 2 has 0, 3 has 90. didn't venture to the back 3.

Remove the upper timing cover and see if the belt actually turns the cam gears when the engine is cranked. I'll bet it isn't turning much, if at all due to broken belt teeth.

You tested cylinders 4, 5, & 6. 1, 2, & 3 are on the firewall and are numbered from the front (passenger) side of the engine.

It's pretty difficult to imagine a situation in which 4 & 5 have no compression while # 6 has some unless you have a sheared front/exhaust camshaft.

My bet would be on the belt intermittently catching while you were checking #6.

You can remove the oil filler cap and see the exhaust cam for cylinder # 4 or 5. Check to see if it's rotating while cranking.

yeah as my first post says "ok so far i have confirmed that the timing belt is not broken, it has spark, and it has fuel pressure/fuel." thats how i confirmed the tbelt wasn't broken, it moves very smoothly. it's raining and nasty today though so i won't be doin much to it..

ok today i pulled the timing cover off, and checked the timing, it was off by 1 tooth, i set it dead on, but it still does nothing to exciting, turns over very slowly...

Re-check compression if you still have no compression on cyl. 4 and 5 either valves are stuck open, serious bottom end problems, or you may have a head gasket cracked between cylinders (i have only seen that happen on turbo-coupes) check compression on all 6 cylinders. and for cly. 6 compresson was too low. Do wet and dry compression test.

Did engine run rough, make noise,or give any warning's?

engine doesn't run at all...just turns over slowly, battery is fully charged. perhaps the starter is tired but it should still start.... but i'm getting no compression, i really don't feel like pullin the engine down to the heads but i guess that'll be this weekends project...be that much easier to put stuff from the engine on ebay. the sho plus is goin to be a parts plus soon the way it's goin.

oh and no it gives no `warnings`, just cranks slowly compared to my '89 sho, and doesn't bother to start. i took the top timing cover off and the belt was off by 1 tooth (but no teeth are off the belt, it looks new actually), so i set it dead on, so the timing is perfect, it has spark, it has gas, but doesn't have compression, guess i'll start tearing into the engine soon...where can i get some Cheap intake gaskets since i gotta pull the intake tomorrow..

ok heres todays update so far, i pulled the intake and the front valve cover, looks good... so it must be either headgasket or a cracked head, or rings, not sure if i really feel like pulling the heads... Oh and the car was in a small crash, to the front right side, which would explain the missing fiberglass hood.
