hey nick welcome aboard some ultra black permatex on the plug well gaskets will take care of the oil leakin in. after the 60k and tune up get rid of that stock y-pipe and the rest of the exhaust. one of the first upgrades you should do in my opinion

It's got 200k on the odometer. Don't put anything into it except maintenance. You'll need plenty of it.

@luigisho Haha. Exactly. I'm still researching what kind of new stuff it needs. After taking off the intake manifold, I discovered that a bunch of things were missing. A couple hoses and brackets that the SHO Phoenix Project Upper 60K page mentioned were missing, and the missing hoses could explain my lack of a heater and AC, always blows outside temperature air or slightly lower.
So, since I'm at it, there seems to be a copper tube entering through the firewall, and it's missing a hose..

the heater core is most likely leaking and someone bypassed it.

Are you near other AZ SHO owners? It would be easier to look at another car to see what is missing other than the brackets. It's been a long time since I've been under the hood of a V-6 car, but wasn't there a ground at one of the rear brackets?

@luigisho There's supposed to be one. I grabbed all the necessary tools to take it off, then looked around for a good five minutes before giving up.

that ground is on the left rear corner of the intake where the support should be

i may or may not have the bolts for the ground strap. if your strap is there i will give them to you for free of my spare engine.
I took the supports off of my engine in car over a year ago. and i dont need two sets of bolts so you are welcome to them.

So, an update:
Because my dad is a badass and all around cool mechanical guy, he gave me a set of feeler gauges, a tappet compressor and tappet holder he bought to work on Toyota/Lexus shims, and things worked out pretty peachy. I checked out all the shims and surprisingly, they were all within good gap measurements and not very worn at all. I'm under the assumption that they were actually done relatively recently, because not all the shims were the same size to begin with.
Now, I'm saving up for gaskets, spark plugs and wires. After using a vacuum pump to clear out all that oil, I pulled the plugs out, and some of them were damn nasty. And they weren't all the same brand. Coincidentally, two of the plug wires were new, albeit on the front. Half-ass mechanic shops must have been the name of the game here.
I've got a question on the gaskets: Am I supposed to be using any kind of sealant besides RTV for the valve cover and plug well seals? And for the intake runner gaskets, what kind of sealant should I be saving up for?

I use this for the plug well seals and a very very light coating on the valve cover gaskets.
i just use an extremely light coating of RTV for the intake plenum gaskets
LOWC mentioned it as well.

@SHOmethewayhome: thanks again for the prompt knowledge. Whoever did the job last before I did used some sort of orange silicone for everything. Pretty loose job, because the stuff was congealed on the edges both inside and out of the plug well seals. Nothing a quick cleaning couldn't get rid of, but it's nice to know that I won't need to be excessive with seals.
Shophoenixproject didn't mention placing a light layer on the valve cover gaskets, just particular spots on the heads, and since the guide is so thorough otherwise, I figure if it was important, they'd mention it. However, you've been such a help that I'd rather be safe than sorry and follow your advice. =)
