Hey i got in a fender bender (literally) this thursday, and friday picked up a fender off a 95 sable in a junkyard for (get this) 35 bucks.

problum is, it is the same color and everything, it just has that twin-stripe thing i see on most sables. will it peel off? will i have to sand it down and touch up? help is appreciated.

It might be a factory painted pinstripe. Be very, very careful with some 1500-2000 grit sandpaper and a buffer. Depending on the color of stripe/paint, it still could leave a stain in the base color. No guarantee that it will all come out. If you're lucky, it could be an aftermarket tape stripe. Use a hair dryer (or some VERY light use of a heat gun) to soften the vinyl and peel off.

I depends if it was painted on or its just a sticker. Most Sables I have seen it's painted on. If it's painted on you might be able to take it off with lacquer thinner but that may damage the paint if your not carful. If it's a sticker it will just peel off (usually in very small chunks headbang )

tried heat, dint work to well. it came right off with sandpaper. The problum is now is getting the paint to look normal again. you can tell where i sanded from where i didnt, even after using 2000 grit and then waxing it. what else do i need to do?

EDIT: i gave some Scratch-X i had a shot at it, it seemed to work pretty damn well. it is still noticible if you're looking for it however, but not very bad at all. if you guys have other suggestions as well they would be appreciated.

Must use rotary buffer w/ compound (not wax) to polish out the 2000 grit scratches. I use Meguiar's Diamond Cut polish. It's aggressive, but shines superb. If you don't have a buffer, i'd recommend taking it to a body shop and have them properly buff it. Let them choose the proper compound that won't burn through. Should take them no more than 1 minute, tops...
