My '93 ATX is jerking very noticeably when going uphill if I try to maintain speed or gradually increase speed. It doesn't if I step on the gas to increase speed going up the hill. I've had similar problem in the past and a mechanical said it's probably the fuel filter and kind of helped when it was replaced but not totally.

Could this be start of that dreaded ATX transmission problem or something else?

Does it do it in overdrive? Kind of acting like it's trying to find the right gear? I'm just asking because when SOME older Ford transmissions get a good chunk of miles on them, Overdrive CAN start to act funny. It will seem like it's hunting for a gear at low speeds in Overdrive. (40-50MPH) I can't say for sure that this is your condition, but my philosophy with the SHO has quickly become, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" The SHO parts are too expensive and hard to get to make unnecessary replacement prudent. Just my 2 cents.

check your codes. you might come up with the vss which is the vehicle speed sensor. this can cause ur problems that you are describing. how old are your plugs and wires? are you using the correct motorcraft agsp32pp plugs? if you have oil in the wells, you should get the felpro intake gasket set which includes 2 valve cover gaskets and 6 plug well seals. check your codes per www.shotimes.com

If it is an engine misfire and you are not seeing the CHECK ENGINE light, it is either the spark plug, plug wires, or both.

I would also say that it is probably the spark plugs and wires.

Many people have come to me saying that there car is hesitating/doesn't want to accelerate. It was the plugs/wires.

You can pull off the spark plug wires one at a time and look in both ends. If they are corroded then you really need new wires.
