Well I've had my new gen 3 for a few weeks now and I am starting to fix it up little by little. My first 2 tasks are to fix the sub that isnt turning on as well as install my xm radio.

I have the JBL system in my 96 and the sub isnt working. The RCU is hooked up and all of the speakers sans the sub work perfectly. The sub is connected to a wire on the driver's side that has a white connector on it. The passenger side of the sub has a wire/gray connector that is hanging loose. I assume this is the connector that plugs into the actual speaker cone, right? If thats the case, I am assuming that just the sub is not working as I tried this with no luck. Could this be a RCU issue instead?

Next issue is the ash tray/cig lighter. It seems as if the lighter assembly unscrewed from the housing. After looking around on here and v8sho.com, I found minimal directions to the removal of the center console. It also seems that plastic parts around the shifter love to snap when trying to remove them. Is there any way I can remove the ash tray itself without removing the center console? I would ultimately like to hard wire my xm radio directly to the power wires behind the cig lighter. If the entire console has to come out, are there any tips/special tools I might need to lessen the chance of snapping plastic parts around the shifter?

Thanks! :salute:

EDIT: Scratch the center console removal. Where else can I wire in my xm radio? I have about 15 feet of power wire for the receiver so i can pretty much hook it to anything provided I have a constant 12v supply.

I did plug a regular speaker into that plug, and it worked. Definitely a speaker problem. As far as the cig lighter part, I'm lost when it comes to the setup in the G3.

Thanks James. I knew you explained it to me but I couldnt remember for the life of me what you said. :nut: I've got a new sub being shipped as we speak.

As for the cig lighter, i'm not worried about it anymore. I just ran the power wire to the 30A fuse for the accessory plug and all works well.

The whole center console does not have to come out.

You can remove the ashtray by removing the cupholders first. Open the center console lid and gently pry the cupholder section up. The flip-out cupholders are a bit of a PITA and require some finesse and many swear words to get that section out.

Once the cupholder section is out you can, again, finesse out the ashtray section. It has 4 pressure fit clips around the perimeter so it can take some force. Just be patient. Just don't try to use a metal screwdriver to try & pry it out. You can gouge the leather and chip the plastic. Don't ask me how I know. ;)

I have no idea about the sub, sorry.
