What is the preferred location to jack, and place jackstands on a Gen 1? I've been using the subframe, at the front corners. Any problems with that? I've been thinking about cutting a notch in a 2X4, and putting it at the official jack point behind the front wheel, at the seam. But then you can't put a jackstand there at the same time.

I usually put the jack on the front crossmember of the subframe, and put the jackstands at the jack point behind the front wheels. I've found that they're not in the way as much back there when I'm crawling around under the car.
