Okay, so, I got my amp hooked up and it's working wonderfully. But the extra heft, and size of my sub and box I'm just not liking. I can feel the extra weight, and I'm also afraid of it sliding around in my trunk. Plus, it takes up a shiznet load of room, that I'd like to use for my football stuff. So, what I would like to do is replace my interior speakers with some nice aftermarket speakers, and amp them; replacing my sub.

Would there be much of a difference in sound (deepness/bass)? I know that it will be loads clearer than the stock speakers. Now that I've got my exhaust all hooked up, I don't care for the radio as much. So, I'm thinking that the sub might be just a little too much.

Any opinions? Some ideas on speakers that have a good full range frequency response and suggestions on how to set it up. Also, I don't want to spend too much money on this... I would like it to be a nice set-up (why I'll be doing it myself) and cost little. I think I might get some 6x8's for the rear, amp those, and then save up for some nice components for the front; powering all 4 with a 4-channel amp. Or possibly, just get a smaller 2-channel amp, and just power the rears, the fronts are clear enough for me.

But eitherway, I guess I'll try selling my amp, and sub on eBay or on here (I'll be posting a for sale ad). The sub is a 12" Type-R, one of the newer models. The ones with the HAMR surround. It's been used for about a total of 3 months, I got for my jeep a couple months before I sold it. It's a great shape. I'm not sure how much I can get for my amp though... it's a Pioneer, however, it's always worked great for me.

I'll most likely end up going the route of using a 2-channel amp to power some decent rear speakers. It'll be cheap, it'll sound good, and I won't have the trouble of a bigass subwoofer box in my trunk sliding around. That box was totally f-ing up my chi. Thanks for the help in my other thread though.

im assuming you have an aftermarket headunit, probably a 50x4. Try just using that with out the amp and jsut buying new speakers.

Haha, again, I have a 97, so the aftermarket headunit isn't really an option. I used a line converter. But I'm pretty sure that I'll go the route of a smaller 2-channel amp to power some 6x8's possibly some 6x9's in there rear. The fronts have great clarity, in my opinion. So, don't want to replace those. Thanks for the suggestion of speakers, but I'm looking for aftermarket speakers.

You can get 6x9's in the back openings. Just mount them from the top with the plastic speaker grilles under neath. You have to take out the mesh that covers the grilles but you just flip it under and punch 4 holes, 4 sheet metal screws, tada... Otherwise just go with 1 12" subwoofer.

I have pictures... but am going to a 21st birthday party... will post later

The stock amp is plenty for the door and rear shelf speakers. I have Infinity Reference 6x9 one way component speakers in the rear, the tweeters that came with them are in the sail panels and much better tweeters.

In the door they are 5x7 two ways. The one way component speakers will fill in the mid base but you still need a sub IMHO.

I made a small sub box (10" x 10") with an 8" woofer in it for the Festiva. You might try this. Currently I have a 12" woofer in a box (~15" sq) that fits under the rear shelf and takes up about half the width of the trunk. This has a 400w mono sub amp mounted on the speaker.

Well, I've been doing some research, and found these. They are a well built speaker/subwoofer. Great brandname backing them up, and are small, and can fit right where I want it to. They seem to be at a decent price as well. Would placing one of these, possible two in the rear deck give me good sound? I'm looking for some more bass, without taking up ANY space in my trunk. So, I'm ruling out a subwoofer with a box in the trunk. Any opinions on these would be great!

I wanted to try that 6" subwoofer from Elemental Designs and just trim the 6x9 factory sub hole to fit. If you fit two in the back shelf your going to have to go buy some 2 way's still for midrange and a tweeter.

Here's a picture of my back speakers. I would have liked some newer and better speakers but, they still sound good for 2 year old Pioneer 3 way's.

I was going to stick one of the speakers first in the back in the 6x9 opening but just put both in instead. Oh well...

My friend has an '86 Cougar, and he wanted a box in his trunk. For those of you who aren't familiar with the model, it's based on the mustang fox-body platform, and has the nasty feature of a full-size spare taking up almost the entire trunk.

We found a Kicker L5 8" square sub and ported box at the local audio store for $200. Another $200 for a 400W mono amp, and the sound is absolutely amazing. It hits just as loud and almost as tight as my 2-10" Kenwoods in a ginormous sealed box.

As soon as I can I'm getting one for myself.

You think that it would put out a decent amount of bass? I'm not looking for huge bass since I don't listen to the type of music that involves huge bass. I just want to add a little deepness to my stock setup.

EDTI- Also, if I do decide on going with that, how much power should I send it? Would the recommended 150watts RMS be a little much? Since it'll be in an infinite baffle setup?

A 8" sub will fit in the middle with minimum modification....it will give it some kick and wont take up much space...most 8's are free air anyways...

Hmm, when I took a look at it, it looked as though I would need to make an MDF ring that will contour to the opening and raise it up some. I'm not sure if I would like to take my time doing that, or just get a component set for up front. I think I will try my luck at a component set for up front. Down the road if I'm craving more bass, I'll go that route. Thanks for the ideas though.
