These pics are of the oil pan of my dads 93 that seized the motor with 4 quarts of oil in the pan. Not sure why it seized yet, My guess is going to be a bearing, but i hoping its a seized cylinder so i can bore it out for a 3.2 or 3.3L motor build up.

From the pictures, it looks like rod bearing material. Yes, that is bad. However, a seized motor is bad too.

You sure that is engine oil? Aside from the metal shavings, that looks like gear oil out of a rear end!!

Yea its def motor oil, the motor had over 100k and unknown oil peference or change interval before 75k, as were the 3rd owner of the vehicle. I think thats why its so dark.

Oil doesn't loose it's viscosity, (lubercating ability), It just gets dirty, and the dirty material is what will hurt the engine.

If the engine siezed with 4 qts of oil in it there is some other reason for the siezure than a lack of oil. Was the engine over heated. Even if the oil pump failed it should not have affected the bottom end as it is lubricated by the oil splashed on the cylinder walls and other bottom end parts. If coolant got into the cylinders that would lock it up. If the oil pump failed that would usually lock up the top end. You should have heard the valve train making a lot of noise before a siezure. You could also have spun a bearing or had a piston ring break. Either way I would look for a good used motor. The damage to the crank, rods, and block would usually make rebuilding the motor impractical.

The motor spun a rod bearing. Not real bad either looks like if i can get another rod and clean up the crank, run undersized rod bearings everthing will be good. The motor seized as my dad was sitting a red light so it died right at idle, i snap some pics of the carnage and post back shortly. Whats every ones opinion on undersized bearings? good ? bad? We already replaced the motor and the car is back running and driving great but we wanted to sell this engine if feesable to fix.

A motor that looks like that inside is only worth scrap weight. Sorry. I am not trying to be nasty, but would you but a motor that had been neglected like that one looks.

At the very least that crank needs to be reground. You cannot just "clean up" the damage to the journal. If the rest of the journals look like the one on which the bearings spun they too would have to be ground. At best the motor should only be sold as a parts motor, heads, valve train, etc. It would cost more than the motor is worth to put in running condition.

I agree with above, the crank will have to be reground you would need a new rod also then have the assembly balanced, with all that work you can get another engine cheaper.

Before we owned the car we have no idea how the car was taken care of but under our care it had oil changes religously every 3000. Regrinding the crank was the idea. My dad was just wondering if it would be worth fixing and selling, this engine has already been replaced. Does anybody have an idea what it would cost to regrind the crank?
