is there such a thing as a black 93 up console?

Just took delivery of my 92 SHO wagon and it has the 92 center console that has had the armrest removed to accomodate a 12 disk CD changer. I am either going to try to "fix" the console or get a 93 up console (which I would prefer). I have never seen a black 93 up console. Lot of slo's on a local pick and pull, no black interiors.

So, is it feasable paint it a console? Of course I know it can be done - but I have seen picks of painted interior peices and they are all shiny. Interior plastic does not come from the factory shiny. And would a painted console hold up to wear and tear?

That's what I though. Not manycars w/the black interior. I'm going to have to decide what to do. Either way it's going to cost - fix the 92 console or get a 93 up and paint it. I would just hate to do all the work of paint and have it turn out looking like crap.

No cup holder in the 92 sucks.

Like the others have said, the only year you could get one of the newer consoles was 93. They shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Buying a black center console from a 93 is going to cost you 75-100 bucks. Just paint it, get the correct interior paint and prep it right, and then they make this rubber coating type crap that goes over it to protect the paint if you really want. It will come out great and hold up fine. I have done many interiors that had spray painted panels and vinyl dyed stuff and they have held up great.;)

I would have to imagine that Krylon would work pretty well on the plastic trim pieces... then sand and clearcoat. I plan on making my interior black this way. Black carpet, black headliner, all my pieces painted black... the only hard parts would be the seats... and the sun visors. Those I'd have to acquire.

That will look like shit. Use VHT dye.

The cheapest way might be to buy a cheap SHO with a black interior, swap the interior parts, and sell the parts car.

I tried the Krylon vinyl dye and it was way too glossy. VHT matches the factory finish perfectly. I bought the VHT from Summit since none of the local stores carry the VHT brand anymore.

Haven't checked this thread in a while -I've been knee deep trying to figure out how to switch out my rear suspension.

I did pick up a Mocha console for 25 bucks at the boneyard and I will try the VHT. What is it, VHT paint or dye? And what about the carpeted section?

You'll want to use VHT vinyl dye.

As for the carpet, you'll have to get creative. I haven't done it yet, but my plan is to go to the fabric store and pic a black fabric that I like. If you go that way, you may want to redo the lower door panel sections the same way.

I used duplicolor interior paint to recolor my interior (except the seats) and believe me prep is everything. I plan on pulling my console out and recoloring it with VHT vinyl dye when I add my gauges to it.
Duplicolor worked just fine for my carpet, but it took several coats to get it the shade of black i wanted without "light spots" showing through.
