Good grief! Every time I turn around and try to get a part, the price is unbelievable!

Ford Valve cover gaskets, almost 80 bucks!
And now I check on the spark plug gaskets through ford, and they are 20.67 a piece!

Power steering pump, discontinued from Ford! There is one left brand new in St Thomas on the dealer parts locator.

I know some of you guys have replaced yours. Probably with aftermarket ones. Anyone want to suggest a brand?

When people buy these cars, I guess they don't realize they have 100k+ on them and need maintenence. Parts for these cars are not near as much as some import parts, trust me. I work on this crap all day long and see part prices. Most of our stuff is actually priced quite right if you shop around. As for the gaskets, hit up RCM, they are the cheapest around, and the PS pump, try a rebuilder such as A-1 Cardone.

People who complain about the price on parts for this car, performance or maintenance, usually have older cars where everything is cheap or a car that there's one parked in at least one driveway per a block and parts are everywhere. Try keeping up on a newer car, the prices are higher than the SHO parts...believe that.

Well I would think parts for the SHO are really pricey because there's not a whole lot of companies out there making parts for them anymore so they're harder to get a hold of. My close friend has an 03 mustang gt and maintenance and mods are a lot cheaper then anything i've done to my SHO. I figure aftermarket performance parts are a lot cheaper because there are several vendors making parts for a mustang compared to the very little options we have for our cars. I don't have a problem with that though I love my SHO and love doing stuff to it, it's an insane addiction. Just my opinion on the situation.

If you're talking about the plug well seals, they come with the $80 valve cover gaskets.

Buying a reman is almost always a better deal (few exceptions). You basically get a new pump, generally with a lifetime warranty. Just about any brand you find from www.rockauto.com, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc will do the job just fine.

Depends on what you are buying. My 94 Topaz was cheaper, and my 94 Sentra was more expensive.

Also, the 2003 Mustang is more expensive. The individual parts might be cheaper but the car itself would cost hand over fist more than a well running SHO would these days. No matter what, Ford, et al, will get their money.

well, no matter what, I love the car. the orig. price was great! I've started piling up the parts and will have it all done at once.
Plugs, Plug wires
valvecover gaskets
p/s pump
fuel filter
timing belt

ive got just about everything. now Ive got to decide if I can do this, or let someone else. I think I can do it, I just dont think I'm going to have the time or the space in my garage.

Try owning a Porsche. Everything for the BMW is cheap.

Just kidding man, we're in the same boat. "BMW... expensive, and built to stay that way!"

Actually, it depends on where you go & what you need. If you look around, it's usually not that bad. I've found generic parts that were actually re-pkgd Bosch stuff for the 911, found that if you point a cheaper place (like RockAuto) to the bigger name P-car parts vendors, they'll match pricing (try dropping $200 on an O2 sensor instead of the $45-$65 for the SHO). On the up-side, I can still get 90%+ of the factory parts even after 24 years... Ford was dc'ing parts for the SHO <7 years after mfg. in the case of some parts.

I just dropped about $2700 in new suspension parts for the 911... new Sander / Elephant Racing torsion bars (springs), Bilstein strut inserts / shocks, Lemforder ball joints & turbo tie rod ends, oem strut mounts, Elephant Racing poly-bronze bearings for the a-arms / rear spring plates, new swaybar bushings, etc.

Not a lot of parts for the price compared to doing Tokicos (when you could get them; incidentally Tokico still has them listed on their site) / Eibachs, TPR bushings & aluminum SFBs, endlinks, LCAs, Rear H-brace, rear control arms, strut tower braces, etc. on the SHO... figure half the cost maybe on doing the SHO's complete suspension over, you doing the labor. An alignment / ride height adjust / corner balance is between $250-$450 on the 911.

The SHO's not that expensive if you think about it, and my 91 SHO handles about as decent as my 911 right now, pre- 911 mods.

And yeah, don't buy from Ford unless you have to. There are plenty of other places you can find SHO parts cheaper (if they're available). Look around, ask here first before hitting the dealer. Good luck!
