Fuel Pump relay problem

I've been talking with other SHO owners and determined that I have an electrical problem with my fuel pmp in my 93 ATX. i did a search and found that a lot of people determined it to be the fuel pump relay in the IRCM (if i read correctly). I ran my codes and sure enough, I got the fuel pump relay code. Where exactly is this relay/IRCM located? And what should I do to correct the problem?

What code did you get? Was it 542? IRCM is located under the plastic cover for the rad.

The PCM code for fuel pump circuit problems is seldom a useful diagnostic indicator. I'd bet that many SHOs had that code set and the driver never knows it.

If, on th other hand, the fuel pump is not running AND you get the code, then I'd believe it .... somewhat..

The IRCM is located under the plastic cover on the upper radiator support. The FP relay is not considered to be field-replaceable by the typical DIYer. It can, however, be "hotwired" by jumpering in a generic automotove relay into the IRCM harness. Not neat, but it will do the job.

I got both a 542, and a 543. My fuel pump has, although rarely, shut off on me for a split second, but enough for me to notice a total power loss. Usually under heavy accel the car will act like I just mashed the brakes and then take off again. And jsut today I foudn that the car took a lot of coaxing to start out of nowhere. I've been having a powerloss and weird engine shaking problem since August, and nobody can seem to pinpoint it. I've spent well over $800 in ignition and induction parts, and nothing worked, so i'm down to the fuel system. With all the rain i drive through, it wouldn't surprise me if a relay got shorted and burned somewhere, so I think it's worth at least investigating.

When I started to have a fuel pump problem and I was tring to see if it was the fuel pump relay, I ran a hot wire from the fuse box back to the rollover relay in the truck and put 12 volts to the pump. With it hot wired the SHO would run fine.

Try tightening the bolt holding the wire harness in place. That did the trick for me so far. Be careful not to break it though.

It's worth a try.

Ahhhhh the kiss of death. Mine has failed again after posting that message.

Okay, has anyone found a source for a new ircm yet? How could Ford have discontinued this part??? It makes me even less likely to purchase another Ford.

Ford has discontinued them. My dealer can't even locate one. Same with FPN.

I fond that Schucks, here in Oregon can get a Bosch relay, about $150. I wired in a new circuit from the fuse box. Ran wire from keyed port to a inline fuse back to the roll over relay, this puts 12 volts to the pump when the key is on. Did this after checking with the local Ford Shop, they said everything should work good.

$150? For a simple 12 Volt relay? Thats way to much. I hope you ment $15.

Kinsel Ford located in Beumont, TX has exactly your IRCM relay for your auto. If they do not, they can refer you to another Ford dealer that would. Kinsel carrys all obsolete parts especially the IRCM (CCRM).

I just got my 93 mtx back from the grave after many issues with the CCRM (IRCM). It was a mess, after installing the wrong letter, changing out my starter (which turned out to be dead) fuel pump (also dead, made access panel) and finally realizing my letter code was the wrong part for my car..........

Anyhow, I know these guys have what your looking for. A brand new CCRM for your SHO will run you $158.18. Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Can't find a valid phone number for Kinsel Ford. Both numbers I found are disconnected.

Thanks for the contact info and links guys.

The number on my unit is F1DF-12B577-BA. It has a large "M" also.

I won't be able to reply again until after the weekend. Have to go to Long Beach. Hope it'll be as warm as it is here.

Okay, the dealer in Texas has 7 of them that end in "B", none that end in "A". The dealer in Minnesota has 2 that end in "A", but the letter on both is "J". I need an "M". He also told me that his computer indicates the correct part for the MTX ends in "B".

Can anyone verify the correct part number for a '93 MTX? The dealer in Texas is going to call me back tomorrow.

Thanks.
