Thought my fuel pump relay was bad for a while, then tried tightening (a little, don't crack it) the 8mm bolt on the wire harness to the unit. The car has been starting with no problems since then.

Just wanted to give a heads up to those with going through the same thing.

It's a good idea to occasionally (every couple of years) loosen all the electrical connector bolts a few turns and then retighten them. This slides the contacts against each other and cleans the oxidation film that forms on them over time. Especially the ones in the engine bay which are exposed to the elements and more temperature extremes. Also, unplugging or slightly unplugging the other connectors that don't have bolts is also a good idea. This oxidation is not really classified as corrosion, but it can significantly increase the resistance of the connections.

Nothing to do with automobiles, but the same holds for PCB's and connectors in computers. It's not necessary to completely remove them.

IF THIS WAS INDEED YOUR IRCM/CCRM PROBLEM............you still might want to loosen the bolt a few turns and retighten for better electrical contact.

Just FYI, I was having the same problem but mine was the fuel pump relay. I replaced it on the IRCM PCB and tore the old one apart and could see that it's contacts were pitted somewhat. However, not bad for the original 1993 relay with 108K miles on it! Mostly short trip mileage which means many, many relay cycles.
