If you have the IPT coil over kit on your SHO please comment on it. What do you like/dislike. Would you buy it again.

I have one of the original kits, not sure if they changed with time. Personally, after 5 years, I really enjoy them. That said, the only unique part of the kit are the mounts and a few bushings/sleeves. Anyone with a torch and welder can modify the strut housings, and the Eibach springs and threaded collars can be purchased by anyone. FWIW, I am having three sets of the front mounting plates made, as my originals are pretty much done for.

Toolman, how are your original strut plates "done for?" What happened to them.

As far as group buys for the mounting plates, I can talk with the shop, but this was kind of a 'favor', so I am not sure.

As far as why they are done for, the car has taken some pretty good hits from some intersections and the like. Keep in mind that you have VERY little travel. Clipping through bumps that you would harldy notice in stock sho fell VERY much different in a coilover car. Lets just say they have seen their better days, and I also modified the camber/caster adjustment to allow for more adjustment.

Quite honestly, my kit is a hack job at best. It includes some quality parts that were butchered on a saw and some spacers that look like they were pulled from a scrap yard. It was the last one ever made; #13. As a whole, it might work well but QC was lacking when this setup was put together.

As far as mounts go; Lance Cheney has replaced the spherical bearings with upgraded ones. While I may consider doing this for the rear mounts (they don't carry as much load as the fronts), I do not feel that it is safe to use spherical bearings in a strut mount application. They were designed for horizontal loads only. A vertical load is unsafe and can be deadly when holding up the front of a heavy car like the SHO. Yes, most mfgr's use them this way but there is a better way. Read up on this a little more at www.ground-control.com

I plan on using ground control's generic coilover mounts. They utilize a Torrington thrust bearing to remove the load from the spherical bearing.

At $300 they aren't cheap but proper coilover setups aren't.

I am in the process of designing a better setup. I will either use my IPT stuff or sell it off and modify a ground control kit.
