IPod Interface in 94 SHO

does anyone make an acceptable Ipod interface to the stock stereo for a 94 ATX with premium sound system?

I'd prefer something wired into the deck as FM modulators seem to distort a lot where I live and the frequency is constantly changing

i highly doubt youd get anything to work other than an fm modulator. which i agree, do suck. your only way of doing it is buying a new head unit with an aux input.

Next to a hardwire setup or aux jack, the cassette adapter is next best. With the FM mod worst. I had a FM mod and a cass adapter for my XM Roady when I drove a truck. I used the FM mod for ease of use in the truck as I didn't have a permanent truck. I kept the cassette adapter in my Saturn DD. HTH!

i have a Kenwood setup in my 89 and i have the iPod converter that plugs into the head unit...the converter will work with any Kenwood head unit form the past couple of years that had cd changer control.....the conveter will run you about $80 on ebay..def money well spent,i love mine....

Although im not trendy enough to own an Ipod, i wonder if it would be possible to interface the stock CD player input on the stock radio/tapedeck.

I was also researching the ways to convert the stock JBL system to play from my Ipod. My hypothesis is that: If you have the JBL sound system with the CD player deck in accordance to the JBL reciever/tape deck then, if you are willing to, you can disconnect the CD player and hardwire a modded version of a Ipod connector to the JBL reciever/tape deck.

In short: unplug your CD player, take a Ipod to RCA adapter, strip the connecters, mod to fit the connectors on the radio and get it all good to go. Plug it in, get an Ipod stand and goto town.


Note: this is just an educated guess/hypothesis. Seems plausable.

there is supposedly a way to splice the wires into the input from the tape deck, then you just take a tape and strip the tape put of it, whenever you want to use the ipod, push the "tape" in and the ipod will be patched through. i hardwired in an aftermarket pioneer adapter though so i don't know how to do th splicing

I have a Kenwood headunit with a hook up for Ipods and does great.

You would need to take the wires going to the CD Player and splice them into an Ipod to RCA adapter. (clip the RCA connectors off and splice wires. Use some heatshrink and electrical tape after you're done either twisting the wires together or soldering.) Then you can turn your ipod on and it will get the feed from it like it was a cd and play it.

I had the pioneer iPod box... wasn't impressed at all. The interface was slow and complex. I just used an AUX in... made things really easy.

take one part custom made ipod case holder to replace the redundant radio controls...

add one belekin ipod charger/line out adapter (modified to bypass the external amp of course, routed out through a DIN slot of course)

route the line out through the aux input of the aftermarket pioneer amp

finalized: able to control the ipod directly, and have it displayed nice and near the steering wheel, in line of sight with driving

Dayum, Justin! Thats pretty sweet! Now I just gotta get one of them thar Ipod thingys ... Of course the wife needs one first, she's been wanting one for awile now.... You need a black one though... It sticks out like a sore thumb in your car!

actually, you don't need splicing or any insane wiring at all with a stock system. whether you have jbl or premium sound the casette deck is the same for both. as long as you don't have the addon cd player (which is crappy anyways) or the cd changer in the trunk you should be able to hook it right up using an aftermarket adapter made by P.E.I., Peripheral, or PAC, just to name a few. they make interfaces that plug into the back of the cassette where the jumper is and the other end plugs right into your ipod dock connector. if you have any of the cd units you can just disconnect them since the ipod is way better anyways. the interfaces run around $50 (just a little over an ipod fm modulator anyways). i can't remember if you have to run their power from the cigarette lighter/splice or they run off the cassette deck. either way, it's easier than messing around with splices and you can take it out easily later and use it in another car.
