I have a 94 sho atx, and I need a COLD AIR INTAKE. Not a short ram, not a ram air, a COLD AIR. Anyone know where I can get one?

Just take one of these, turn it upside down, and spray it into the intake as you drive. Cold air! You might need a few though.

But really, the stock air box pulls air in from the fender well just fine, so worry about spending your money elsewhere.

If you want it to sound faster, you can put in a K&N panel filter and remove the horn on the box in the fender well. It can be accessed by taking out the driver's side marker light.

No, Not really. And like others have said, The stock Air Box is your best option. It truely is a great design. I've ran both CAI's and Stock Air Box's. There was no differene. On my Full bolt on/cammed 92, I run the stock airbox. Would not have it any other way.

I have a old SHO Shop set up with a cone filter in a can. I gained about 100hp of noise, but none to the wheels. The stock set up works very well. You can gain noise by removing the silencer from the fender well.

I was rebuilding the tranny. I took out the tranny through the wheel well and installed the tranny after the rebuild the same way. I didn't have a way to lift the engine to completely remove the subframe at the time.

I have a 95 fully modded ATX. I run the SHOShop CAI, and all it really does is make more noise, and cause headaches due to the filter needing to be cleaned every couple months. The stock airbox pulls right from the fender. Take off the silencer cone, drop in a K&N panel filter, call it a day. No need to spend money on something that's worthless.

Goodcars inc sells them on ebay. I replaced my stock airbox and K & N with one and it has a bit better tip in throttle response now. The filter is enclosed in a can inside the engine bay so it does not get dirty like the SS ones that are in the fender. Frankly, it is hard to say if there is any HP increase, and it is not worth the $ to dyno it just to see.

Like others have said it is not really necessary as the stock unit is free flowing enough for the engine, what you can do if you haven't already is take the outer portion from the inner fender out. Then cut the lower airbox and fender opening larger and buy a K and N filter, this will function just a good as any CAI you could buy for the SHO.

Has no one done a write up on building your own? It couldn't be that difficult I know we GP guys do it all the time. :)

Steps for getting a CAI:

Buy Ford Taurus SHO
Open Hood
Follow path for intake
See that intake pulls from inside the fender already
Drink beer and realize you already have a CAI

Too many people confuse CAI for WAI or Open Intake.

Lets take the SHOshop setup JedHead has for example...if you notice it is basically an open filter intake. The filter then has a huge can/shroud covering it. It mates up against the fender where the hole is from the factory setup. Then a "cone" is bolted inside the fender. So air is pulled from the fender, through the cutout, through the now enclosed filter into the engine.

Now lets examine a stock SHO setup. There is an airbox with a panel filter. The airbox mates up to the fender where there is a cutout. Inside the fender is a "horn" that people remove. So air is pulled from the fender, through the cutout, through the enclosed filter into the engine.

So the stock intake has no restriction in it, and no one would benefit from an aftermarket or straight through design?

Seriously , did you even read what everyone said?

Perhaps you should open up your airbox to see how its made , because even if theres 20 people saying it , I dont think you are believing anything thats being said here.

basically what everyone is trying to tell you is that our cars already come with one and all you should ever need to do is rip out the intake horn muffler and drop a k&n panel filter in.

These aren't honda's so "cold air intakes and headers/exhaust" aren't the first "mods" you do.

if you are looking for that then go buy one.

You guys do realize that Not4Speed is not the OP here, right?

I think he was just asking for 100% clarification that, not only is the stock intake tract a CAI, but it's unrestricted and can't really be improved for power on a stock engine.

And the answer is yes. It can be improved for better sound, but the power is pretty much all there from stock.

I don't think all of that venom is really necessary here. It was just a simple question that was technically not explicitly answered yet in this thread.

The stock flows more than your engine will need. Unless you want a cool sound, you'll be fine with whats already there. You'll see MUCH better improvements if you have an MTX and do a y-pipe.
