Hey guys,

I just won a pair of mint black seats for my SHO on ebay, i just need to go get them. But I am wondering, since I am trying to do a black interior swap, what other parts I could use from this Gen1 car, my car is a gen2. I still need a headliner, carpet, the grab handles and hooks, and a dash, but i know i need to get a gen2 dash. Are those parts that i mentioned above a direct replacement? I already have gen2 door panels, all the interior trim aroudn the windows, and a center console. I think I will reuse my current package tray under the rear window that is mocha, and dye it black. Thanks for any info you guys can provide!

Here is a link to a picture of the seats...

Carpet is probably the same but not the headliner.
The side trim is also different.
The grab handles are a different style but who would notice.
Package shelf is also different.
In other words not much is the same.
The seats will fit but have a different pattern to them.
And the Gen 1 rear seat will have built in rear headrests where the Gen 2 is flat accross the top.

Does anyone else think that those are not '89 seats? The bolsters look like gen II (too small to be '89?). Also, the left driver side bolster looks separated at the seam.

They are from a 90 or 91.
Same style as the 89.
Black was only available for Gen 1's in 90 + 91.

do gen I's have grab handles? i looked at one in the yard and i didnt see them or the places for them. my 92 also didnt come with them from the factory, the recess was there but no holes in the headliner so i know previous owners didnt remove them. i grabbed some from a 93 however.

Yes, that's a Gen 1 SHO. The rear bench has built in headrests as stated and is slightly curved on the bottom cushion as well. The front and rear seats have preforated "leather" and are double stitched down the center. Door panels are also Gen 1 style w/ the angled rear window switches and aren't as rounded off on the edges.

I think the Gen 1 interior is 100 times better then the Gen 2 when it comes down to fit and finish. It doesn't squeak and rattle anywhere near as much as the gen 2 panels and dash.

Ya, I know the seat belts are different, that is why I am getting the belts out of this car... How about the head liner, should that be the same?

headliner is different. I have a good black headliner for a moonroof car from a 92 if you want it.

If I were you, I'd make sure to condition the he** out of those seats before you sit in them- I think they are going to he disturbingly brittle when you get them- especially with the perforation, by the looks of them. I hope there aren't more rips and holes than appear on the pics of both front and back.

Good luck with your swap!

The carpet will not fit, nor the headliner.

The rear seatbelts will not easily swap either. The anchor points are attached to the car differently then on the Gen 2. I think to try and get them to work, you'd have to drop the gas tank, and I'm not sure that would even work.

Carpet

Does everyone else agree the carpet wont swap? Also, would the other belts be okay, just maybe not the rear buckels in the rear seat? Thanks you guys for the input!

i agree the gen2 door panels are much cheaper and they rattle a lot.

although it does look nicer....

I used gen2 seats in my gen1 with no seatbelt mods...

I would stick with as much gen2 stuff as possible, except for the seats, the seats are pretty interchangable with the only differences really being their apperance....

Gen 1 carpet is too short for the Gen 2. Gen 2 must use Gen 1 carpet. Gen 1 can use Gen 1 or 2 carpet.

If you use a 2nd gen Sable package tray the bumps on the top of the 1st gen rear seat back will not look out of place. The 2nd gen Sables had the bumps like the 1st gen Taurii did. You also should use the 2nd gen inside seat trim (where the seat meets the center console). You can use the 1st gen ones but they will rum on the 2nd gen console. AFAIK here are which 1st gen (90-91 only) parts that will swap over:

3rd brake light housing ('92 only)
Radio trim
Glove box door
Moonroof console
Moonroof sun shade
Moonroof edge trim
Left and Right sun visors (they fit but the mirrors are a bit different)
Rear view mirror
Steering column cover
Carpet & floor mats
Front seat belts
Front and rear seats (the rear seat bottoms only fit 92s and 93s)
Dimmer and auto headlight panel
