I have noticed that when I slip my clutch for more than, say, 3-4 seconds, I sometimes feel this very quick grind in the pedal. It is not audible. The image I get when I feel it is that of a screw sticking very slightly out of a block of wood, as you clide another block over it, smooth, then suddenly a quick grind. I am thinking something with the TOB. Clutch is about 7k old. Any thoughts? Any workarounds? I wonder if the TOB is just picking up a little dust as it moves. Other than that, pedal feels smooth as can be.

Slipping the clutch for more than 3 or 4 seconds? I think you have the cause of your roughened flywheel surface. That generates a lot of heat and has probably deformed the surface of the clutch. I have seen a flywheel that had "globs" of metal that had been moved like sand dunes due to the heat from slippage.

The other possibility is that it is the standard equipment SHO transaxle gear "rollover" that causes a buzz in the clutch as you get rolling in first gear. I hope that is all you are feeling rather than the damaged flywheel scenario.

I hope it isn't the flywheel either. Thanks for your help Scott! The reason for slipping the clutch so much is that I haven't fully adapted to the Hi-revs Jr, and we have some nasty hills to start on that nearly require a little slipping like that (sometimes as little as about 2 seconds of slipping).

Believe me, I try not to slip my clutch that much that often! After changing my 89's clutch, I am determined not to have to change the one in my 91 for many years to come. wink
