Hey folks,
I've been looking into some kind of detonation control lately. I know I'm running fairly mild boost (6lbs), but still it'd be nice to have the piece of mind with a stock compression motor. I may go up to 8 or 9lbs in the future also.

With that said I've been looking into intercoolers lately. I know Tim runs an intercooler but I'm not sure if any of the other guys do. I've done a lot of reseach but there really isn't any solid info on picking the right size, etc. Obviously I don't want to run into too much boost drop, but if an intercooler drops me 2lbs but makes up for it in a denser charge, it may be worth it. What size intercooler are people running on our cars? And do you have any idea how much of a boost drop you're seeing with it?

Also, I've thought about water injection too. I know PanamaPat is running some type of system on his car. Does anyone here have any expierience with this?

Thanks

-Adam

Save you pennies...you'll have to get a custom made intercooler. If you spend the money go for an air to water one. Air to air won't be as effective.

Get in touch with Spearco, this is what i'm running on my 92. Since i still havn't even driven the car, i couldn't tell you the gains or the benefits of it, but the previous ownerwas quite impressed with it, as am i. I guess it only took them 1 weeks turnaround to build it as well..

Goodluck, i can post some pics if you'd like!

adam,

get in touch with josh t and lupo (brian). both have custom intercoolers. i emailed josh a while back. he was enetertaining the thought of manufacturing his set up.

since your car is a gen II and you are using osman's old powerdyne setup from the hulk. it's probably not that bad to get an air to air made. i think osman was quoted around $600 from atp in fremont, ca.

reason being that the old style sho shop tubing lends itseld fairly easily to a front mount air to air intercooler. whereas the new "top mounted" tubing is a PITA to work around.

osman would have more insight on this one.

see ya,
Robby

Also you can go propane or must typhoon/Gn guys go with a Alky kit. Out of the two the Alky kit will lower your temps and boost your octane a bit. The propane kits adds alot more octane but not as much cooling. Either kit can be computer controlled. rpms etc. Kits start at 399 up to 700. Most GN/typhoon uses swear by it. Just another idea???

Couple of things.

1. Marc, hehehe. I noticed your sig about not driving the s2k in the wet. Quite a handful, isnt it!

2. Adam, air/water intercoolers are the preferred setup for drag racing, where you can cool the air charge below ambient by using ice water, etc. YOu would be okay for autox too, but on a road course, where the car is turning sustained high rpms (and boost) for 20-30 minutes at a stretch, you will eventually exhaust the abilities of an air/water system. A front mount in this case would be better, since you have a never ending source of air across the core.

3. Given your setup, a front mount would be a piece of cake to do. Just find an import shop (a good one), and show them the setup. THe ATP guys told me that plumbing an fmic would be a couple of hour affair at the most, compared to some serious bench time if you want to do an air/water setup.

If I were you, Id try out an air/air setup first, becuase its going to be so easy to do, before you go all out on an air/water setup.

Had the car come with the vortech style tubing, then it would bhe a different matter altogether.

Or the tubing for the Vortech could be completely custom fabricated. Its a lot less than you would think.

Stil waiting on pics from my buddy for my setup!

That would be true assuming that your setup has no heat exchanger/radiator. Drag racing only cars forgo the heat exchanger because they simply don't need it. Street aftercooler setups (like those offered by Vortech) have the heat exchanger/radiator, and they cool the water with the same "never ending source of air" that air-to-air intercoolers use.

If you are looking for a air to water setup. I have my old one off my typhoon. About the s2000.. I was driving it last week in the rain doing 60 mph on a 8 lane highway (I355) and the car decided to do 4 360's in the middle of traffice. Came 3 feet close to killing myself. Everyone one the expressway stopped and watched me spin :D . I got sooooooooooooo lucky. After that.. got new tires all round and parked the car. Not driving EVER AGAIN in the rain.
