Hi all. Looking at my next upgrade to the v11 tune . This is my daily and I'm not racing the car...just looking for reliable, safe, spirited performance that I can hammer on only periodically . I live in a moderate climate that doesn't exhibit extreme temperatures .

It appears that the SHO hasn't had a IC upgrade available until GH's recent release so I'm tending to think that to date this hasn't been a terribly weak link in the platform given its been around since 2010 and would have been developed sooner if it was failing. I also don't find it appealing to tear the front end apart to do the instal . Reverting back to stock later would be a pain if that was required down the road .

Based on my above situation the pump seems to be a better upgrade given the comments received in an earlier thread I asked the community about .

What do you pros have to say? Thanks .

I am doing the intercooler first. It will make the engine more efficient which in turn should take some of the "strain" off the fuel system. There are many people making good power without any fuel pressure problems (myself included). Personally spending $1600 on a fuel pump that truly isn't needed, isn't appealing. However keeping the IAT down is truly needed, esp with this platform. People are saying a 30 to 40 hp pickup just from the intercooler. $799 is peanuts for that kind of power, and better efficiency.

I'm incompetent to install the cooler and it looks like it's a multiple hour job for a seasoned tech. I'm guessing the cooler price for me would be similar to the pump's cost .

Good point about the pump maybe isn't needed in the first place and the cooler is along with its power . Maybe I should be thinking about GH but I'm just recently vested in the LMS products.

Have you seen the install video for the IC?

The intercooler should be your first mod after a basic tune in all honesty... I identified the intercooler as the "gateway mod" on day 2 of development... I just got a late start ..

I would call a few shops to make sure they are willing to do the install. I’m sure a dealer will, but the cost is gonna be high. My favorite shop actually turned me down after looking at the alldata sheets for the install. They didn’t want to charge me for the labor hours and then something not go right and they have to tear it apart again. If someone here has access to alldata then they can see the labor hours recommended for the replacement. Gives you an idea on cost for the install...

I ended up installing the IC myself. 4 hrs doing it the recommended way which is to NOT pull the crash bar.

As far as a safe, reliable, consistent tune, I don’t think you can get much better than the GH Auto Octane Tune at the moment. Run any pump gas you want, and the tune adjusts for it safely. Plus people are not having fueling issues with that tune like most other tuners. You follow the forums enough, you will see an uptick in people complaining of hesitation every winter.

Also, I am not 100% sure if the LMS tune will adapt correctly to the additional volume. I’m currently running the GH tune for, and haven’t loaded my LMS tune.

If Matt is willing to look at the logs with the LMS V11 tune with his intercooler, he should be able to determine if the V11 tune will correctly adapt to the IC. Which I am willing to do if he wants to go that route.

My car must have been positioned wrong when I pulled the drain plug on the radiator... coolant was hitting the radiator support and went everywhere... luckily it dilutes really well so lots of water from the hose cleaned it up well from the driveway..

Can the IC be installed on a stock tune w/o throwing codes or causing other issues? I don't know how the car would know or care but I'm not a mechanic.

Thank you for all of this and the kind offer to test the v11. I'm going to send the instal video to the Ford tech who has worked on my car and get a feel for whether he will do it and the cost.

Just been communicating with the Ford mechanic and he said it's about a 4 to 6 hr job but very doable. I asked if he foresaw any issues and he replied:

"The only issue we've seen as of late with the large intercoolers on the F150s is where we have a lot of moisture in the air, or a lot of condensation in the intake with, is where the condensation droplets make their way into the engine and onto the spark plug tips, causing a misfire.. but that was with a slightly different intercooler type of the F150 ecoboosts. So that is about the only surprise we've seen."

He recommended the IC on a tuned car as well.

I think I'm in if it will run on a stock tune without a CEL .

I know for a fact that will happen to me. I am calling my shot.

Mine has a drain plug and since it is right next to the radiator, it doesn't have as big of a problem with condensation.

Do you have a sense how often it would need to be drained?

Depends on climate you live in, time of year, and how hard you run your car.

Let's say Midwest with hot, humid temps and cold dry winters and I WOT the girl every time I get a chance!
