I can not get my intake to line up on the car once it has been disassembled. Got it put back together but i just cant get it to line up on the dowl pins in the heads or nothing. Second time that I haven't been able to do this (first time was solved with an alternate intake that was never taken apart) Starting to get very very stressed and that is not a good thing. Any suggestions?

Loosen up all the clamps on the intake and give it another try! Then once you got it installed tighten them up.

i forgot to mentioned that i did that thanks to scott always getting on everybody to do that. my car is running and seems to have plenty of power but it just doesn't sound right. I know that there is something that isn't right. We had a problem getting the runners fitted back over the alignment pens but now seems to be on there.

Did you change the gaskets? Make sure that you have all the vacuum lines properly attached. Sounds like you have a vacuum leak of somewhere to me.

to my knowledge all my lines are connected and the secondaries are working, the intake to head gaskets were fine no paint missing on either side.

when something so simple turns out to be such a pain - jess this car is getting to me. when i get this done i am done with the car.

Don't give up so easily on it, the car is a challenge, don't let it beat you. Make sure that all the connecting hoses are tight. You might consider havng the car running and go to each one and tighten it to see if you can hear a difference. Also, while the car is at idle, press on the intake, see if it moves or you hear a sound difference then. That could help pinpoint where the leak is if you have one.

I know this probably has no relevance but let me just say I'm the exact same way with working on my car. Something SO simple turns into a day long project. I also swear on my life that "This is the LAST time I work on this garbage!" I also get very frustrated when stuff does not work. I actually have a problem with that. I start to smash EVERYTHING without even consiencely trying to. Its not good. Expensive tools get destroyed, parts get *****'d, AND I look like a maniac madman doing it. All i wanna say is, I know how bad you probably wanna smash something when you cant do something, but just drop it and walk away. Its the best thing you can do. Go eat, take a nap, drink a beer, talk to someone, Smoke a butt whatever you need to calm down, that is, IF you get as stressed out as me.

I just got done working on a 2.8L '84 blazer. It had a nasty vaccuum leak. I THOUGHT I went thorugh the ENTIRE vacuum system. I was ranting and raving "I CHECKED ALL THE VACUUM LINES!!!" But low and behold after I calmed down and looked, the vaccuum advance line that goes to the distibutor was just sitting on the tranny bellhousing.

Needless to say it took all weekend. And I only broke the droplight Once this time!!!

Good luck, and it can't hurt to double even triple check all vaccuum lines, dont just check for connections, check for split lines or cracks that could have been from pulling them off. Hope this helps!

that is exactly how i feel and i have said that i am done before but i always come back for more. didn't break any tool this time though.

Bizzy: tried all that and the only difference is in the crossover tube close to the fire wall there is the faintest leak that it seems i am the only one to hear it.

The sound that i am getting is like a knocking pinging clicking sound that is coming from the runner? nothing was dropped in the intake or the head, i don't know what to do - called the local junk yard and they have an intake for about 40 bucks that is in good shape that is going to have to wait till next weekend. shrug

You know what your car sounds like so trust your feelings on this. You may just need to get some new rubber pieces for your intake...it could be that one has a slight crack or area that isn't sealing properly. shrug You might also want to clean that rubber piece up really well and make sure it's pliable still.

half-way there, I think.
I didn't see it mentioned, but the runner connectors only go on one way. They can be put on backwards, but the intake won't want to go together fully. If you have a rattling from the intake - you need to make sure you didn't leave or drop some thing in there.

If that didnt work for you... try this.

Get a propane torch, open the ****, and go around your intake with it.. if at any point your idle raises... then youve located the leak... a little further inspection will lead you to the prob...
