So I'm really wanting to hone my intake but can't afford to have sho shop do it. Is it possible to do it my self? Has anyone done this themselves that can give a step by step description? Thanks guys

As far as doing the entire primary tubes I don't see how it would be done by your self, but Ive done some minor porting and gasket matching. You just take the old gaskets and use them as a template. The secondary tubes are easy as you can acess most of it. I used a dremel type air tool with a carbide bit. I also rounded over all the ports in the tanks to improve airflow. You would ofcourse would want the BBB's or this is almost pointless.

i spent a week on each set i did by hand.. i could have easily filled a coffee cup with each runner..

you could always acid port yourself... do some searching on google you will learn a lot..

o and a word of advice make sure when you get done with chemical porting you clean it and coat it in oil or something.

after aluminum been chemical ported it tends to rust.
some people think its the acid still eatting away.. let me make it clean they are idiots.
reason i say that is because they claim to know what they are talking about yet they really dont. :)

Ok cool. So it is relatively easy and can be done in a day?

I did mine with a dremel and a combination of sanding drums and flapper wheels. I would say you would be hard pressed to get it done in a day if you have never done it before. I would say in a weekend would work.

FYI my dremmel died shortly afterward, however it was a pretty light duty one.

So would my air drill work? With the right bits of course. How do I know how much to take out?

May I suggest getting a spare intake manifold to do this on? Or even just a set of runners. You can put a WTB ad and get one for well under 100 bucks (Shippings going to be the expensive part). Or, Just get one from the Junkyard.

That's actually a very good idea.

and be aware that aluminum dust is poisonous, so wear a mask and goggles while polishing to keep that stuff out of your system.

Do you have a big picture reasonable plan for the car? I think a ported intake is not something that will show much if any gains without a bunch of other stuff.

I see you have Koni struts and that is a good start. I would look at improving the brakes first. Then decide how much hp/$ you want to waste and the most affordable way to get to the end result.

I'm actually wanting to build it for road course. I have a coil over kit and brakes on the way. Eventually I will be doing a 3.2 swap with a turbo and all the fun stuff but for now I'm just looking for the small gains. Currently its just a dd/ Honda eater.
