Over the weekend I spotted a 89 SHO MTX at the junk yard, and when I popped the hood, the engine hadn't been touched yet :dribble: . So I proceeded to pull the intake and the valve covers off. Got those for only $24 :) . Good deal huh? So the question is: I have a 94 ATX, would that intake and valve covers work on my car? For spare parts or to paint or something. Any feedback would be great. Thank you.

That intake would be a 3.0 intake. It does not have the EGR ports that your 3.2 intake needs. You could use all the parts except the rear tube.

The valve covers should be identical as well as the end tube, front tube, and the runners.

Thats what I thought. Thank you. Do you know if I could drill and tap a few holes in the EGR spot to hook it up? Or is it just not worth it? Thanks again.

the crossover tubes differ from 3.0 - 3.2 the DIS module is mounted higher on the ATX tube. you may have clearance issues with that.

There isn't anything wrong with the one on my car now, just that its dirty and oily. I was hoping I could pull that one off, put the junkyard one on, and clean and paint or powdercoat the original one. And while I'm working on doing that, I was hoping that I could drive around with the junkyard one. Is that a dumb idea?

i was just curious! yeah a lot of people have a core that they refinish, then put on the car. so that makes sense.

YOur only gonna get a CEL for the EGR valve. Which does nothing to performance or MPG. So i would run the 3.0 intake.

Im doing the same thing with two intakes, i have a atx and a painted mtx intake that i want to put on. so you are saying that you can run a mtx intake on an atx with on the egr port plugged in?

The easiest way is to just get a TwEECer or chip and disable the EGR functionality completely.

FWIW, a functioning EGR system does slightly improve fuel economy.

i was just gonna say that

an EGR system is NOT for "reburning exhaust gas" like alot of people think, the porpose of an egr system is to replace some of the space that fuel and air would occupy with an inert gas

this lowers your fuel consumption while cruising - which is the only time the EGR should ever be open during accelleration it should be closed so the car makes full power

and toy answer your question about drilling out the 3.0 to work, simple, NO

the manifolds that have the EGR system drilled out have a 6+" long passage that runf from the egr ****** to under the throttle body, drilling it yourself would require a $50 drill bit and damn good aim, plus drilling the egr ****** for its 2 bolt holes, and drilling the cross passages @ the TB ... alot of work
