I was wondering if anyone had removed these and if the loss in velocity was simply not worth it which might make sense. either way if someone who has any knowledge of it could chime itd be great, ty.

Ditch um..

They're meant to channel air blah blah, but they're actually smaller than the secondaries themselves. There is no performance gain or loss really noticable, but it makes putting it together easier and makes the secondaries louder.

And remember, louder is faster! ;)

It's been awhile since I looked at them compared to a stock set of butterflies, but if you're not using Big Bore Butterflies, I would keep them. The general train of thought, as I remember it, was that they were smaller diameter than BBB's, which would make perfect sense to remove them

I couldn't remember if they were smaller than the stockers too.. Its been a while since I've looked at them too.

I haven't had the runners for a good deal of time now and when I drove a stock car around at the shop I honestly couldn't tell the difference in power.. Now that's not to say something wasn't different, I just couldn't notice it.

I think there was a debate thread on here awhile ago about it, but I can't remember..

They're pretty close to the same size as the stock butterflies. They aren't worth the work to remove, unless you have the intake all the way apart. Secondaries got slightly louder, that's about all.

they are there to tune the rpm of the torque peak with the secondaries open. without them, you move the torque peak up to around 10,000 rpm, which means that the second torque peak effectively does not exist. removing them would be a bad idea.

i already have it all apart is why I asked im getting ready to spray it all as I spent quite a few hours cleaning them out yesterday. One of the couplers broke as i figured it would so i bought a set from SHOsource. My ETA to get it running has moved from tomm to next week sometimes BUT that just means tomm i can spend the couple hours its gonna take and redo all my struts/shocks and strut mounts as well as put in my brake upgrade. I wish the SS brake lines I bought were here so i could put them in as well =( Sounds like most of you arent running them so ill likely leave them off they seemed real tiny is why I even bothered asking. I plan on porting most of this stuff myself in the next few months anyways the BBB I was likely going to get done at SHOsource. Before anyone asks why I dont get it all done right now is simply need to get the car going asap again, as we pick up another car in a few months then I can set this one down for a week or so.

If youre going to get big bore butterflies, leave the horns out and save the second set of gaskets, for when you get them.

they are there as type of sonic check valve, when the intake valve closes ( with secondary open) the revesion travels back up the tube and hit the plenum wall preventing it from entering the plenum chamber. thats why its louder with out them, the shock wave spills into the plenum disturbing flow. leave them in they are there for a reason.

i dont have them on the 93. the only difference i notice besides the noise, is there is more of a kick when the secondaries kick in than the 90. its not as smooth. feels like the power drops off a tiny bit that kicks back in.

they suck the air from the deep pocket of the plentium as to not effect the flow of air from the long tube to short tube runners... when it switches from long to short tubes it will cause a disturbance in air flow where for a moment its more then likely not gonna suck any air until the air flow has a chance to change direction.
this is how i understand it anyways...

but also as was stated its not gonna be effective with BBB because it is smaller.. if someone was to fashion a set up for the BBB it might help some with a smoother transition of power

also just a FYI in that link it says about finding out if your TB is enough for the intake... my ported intake with BBB and my 69mm TB on my Megasquirt shows 98 for my MAP which is also the BAP reading so its at 100%... i did not test a stock 65 mm tb
