ok, so my SHO has 176k on it, and as far as I know has probably never had the intake cleaned. Haven't had a look at the runners, but in taking the end of the manifold off when changing the water pump a couple month back, even that part look pretty dirty.
My question is not as much on how to do it, as I will probably use some oven cleaner and carb cleaner, but what the gaskets will be like at this mileage?
Many say you can just reuse the gaskets as long as you are careful not to scratch.
Has anyone cleaned the intake on a high mileage SHO without replacing the gasksets?

The whole intake gasket kit is like $35...I don't see the advantage of even trying to clean it without taking it apart...and if you do that...use new gaskets.

Definitely use new gaskets. They're cheap and to clean it right you should take them apart.

You can re-use them. I also did that on my old beater and it worked without leaks BUT its a low cost insurance to buy some new ones.

Take the manifold off and spray a ton of carb cleaner inside and take the intake to a car wash and spray the **** out of it.

I've done this twice now on 2 different cars, so far the easiest way was a brillo pad(Fine steel wool) and de-greaser. I think if you had a pressure washer it would help a lot to get the majority of gunk out. I think a few people on this forum (Phoenix?) have capped the PCV tube and just have it released straight into the atmosphere, that will keep that gunk from building up again.
