The other day I decided to paint the runners on my intake manifold. Everything went great, inake came off with no problems, paint went on perfectly, everything was all dandy....until I went to put the intake back on.

After fumbling with the inake to get all the bolts to line up and hopefully everything connected, I got the intake on with one exception, the back mounts that hold the back tank on seemed to practicall fall off, and with further inspection I could not see the bottom bolts that were supposed to be there, so I left them off thinking that they were just another thing to help hold the manifold on.

Then I connected everything else and started the car, It started perfectly and Idled well. Then I took it for a drive and noticed immediately that it was really weak and it backfired in low RPM's. Im not sure what the problem could be. Did I not put the intake back on correctly? It seems to be all sealed up. Is there a sensor that I missed? Grounding Issues? Im lost. PLEASE HELP!

Do the back brackets that connect to the rear tank help ground the DIS?
Are there any vac hoses that are hard to see or get forgotten easily? I ran the codes and got a 111, so its not the MAF or any other sensor.

And oh yeah, the car was running perfectly before I decided to take the intake apart. DOH!

The passenger side rear bracket for the intake is surposed to have a metal ground strap bolted onto it from the firewall. If this is not connected the car will run badly if not at all. Also I hope you masked off the dis connetion area as well as the bolt holes.... since the dis needs to ground through the intake.

I polished the cross over tubes and the tanks, I just painted the snakes. But I will check out the ground situation.

And oh yeah, I was reading in another post about remembering to reconnect the sensor that is at the back of the intake...I don't remember any sensors at the back, just vac lines going to a cylinder thingy, a place on the passenger side of the manifold, and a thing close to the cylinder thingy... man that is a poor picture.....

Firing order? Like spark plug wires? Sorry for the unintelligence, but elaborate please!

yeah make sure the wires are to the correct plug, probably just two that are swapped backwards. search for the firing order then cross reference your motor

If you didn't mess with the plug wires, there should be no firing order problem. And since you only removed the intake you didn't have to remove the wires to mess anything up.

The plug wires are correct, and it just has to be an intake gasket leak. Anybody else ever had a bad intake manifold gasket before?

i had some lean backfires when scanning for codes after removing my intake also.

one my vac lines became a little torn/cracked at the very end when i removed it but where its past the metal ****** it seems solid.

still running hot though although i didnt notice any lean backfires during regular driving.

if you put your ear to the engine bay around the inake you will hear a hissing if you have a hose missed.. thats how i found 2 lines i had missed upon reinstall.. oh plus one of the collant lines below the TB, but that one gave me a visual queue upon startup lol..

good luck

when you removed the intake did you reuse the gaskets or get new ones. If you used the old ones then you could be sucking in air after the MAF, a way to test this would be to take some carb cleaner, start the engine, and stray all of the gasket areas and if the engine idles down or just about stalls then the gasket is leaking.

As for the ground wire that is connected to the intake that will couse a no start because the spark plugs will not fire.

Well after going through and checking about everything I could, I decided to start pulling the wires to see if the car would react, just to see if I had a bad wire or one wasn't connected all the way. Well sure enough number 6 wasn't right, so I made a little love to it and the new toy RUNS LIKE A CHAMP! problem solved! Thanks Guys!
