I hope this was not any of you Gen 3 Forum guys. :D

Today I was driving down the Ohio turnpike, and here comes some clod in a Gen III, blowing MASS QUANTITIES of smoke out his exhaust (I saw the smoke before I saw him), driving way too fast for the traffic, and weaving in-and-out. Passing people on the right, basically driving like an A-hole. rant (There was no car fight or anything. I just kept in my lane and observed a real hoser in an SHO. Made me feel bad for the SHO community.)

Well, about 15 miles down the road, our Mario Andretti was off on the side, looking at that smoke with an inquisitive look on his face. doh Too bad he drove like a maniac or else I would have stopped to help. squint

Hopefully it was not one of our guys either, since a Gen III smoking like that might have bit the biscuit.

By the way, I still own my 1981 Scirocco also, and take it out on the occasional sunny summer Sunday. :)

Interesting. That makes 3 of us on this board that have an '81 Scirocco and either a Gen 1/2 or Gen 3 SHO.

My '81 has been off the road for about 12 years, and with a new paint job and some minor body work, will look CHERRY. I bet I have not seen a Mk-1 Scirocco on the road for about 12 months or so. Too bad most of 'em rotted out long ago.

Most conveniently it takes the same oil filter as my '89 SHO. :D

I did not know that about the filter, though having only a Gen III, it does not help me. My MkI is certaily the only one around these parts still going. I switched it over to the 100hp Carat motor long ago as a bolt for bolt replacement. Had it off the road and then back on and then off again. Only just this summer got it going again when I found that the insurance company would let me do it as a summer car instead of paying as a third car in a three person family, a problem when you have a teen. :)
