I'm working on changing all my tie rods and I've hit a road block. I got the drivers side inner and outers replaced, but I'm stuck on the passengers side. I spent about 45 minutes drilling the rivet out on the drivers side, but there is no room for a drill on the passengers side, and the rivet is pointing up, not down. How have other people removed the rivets? I have a dremel, but removing the head of the rivet seemed to make it more difficult to remove on the drivers side. HELP!! ;)

The rivet is soft aluminum and doesn't need to be removed.

Just twist the tie rod off the rack and the aluminum will give.

A friend of mine tried that and completely stipped the threads off the rack, then had to replace the rack.

I was able to remove the rivet on the passengers side, and it was a lot quicker then drilling the drivers side. I was able to knock the head off the rivet(not the easiest thing to do) which left enough of the rivet sticking out that I was able to pull it out with needle nose pliers.

My inner tie rods were completely shot, and the passengers outer was rusted and completely void of any grease. I'd been meaning to do this for about a year now, and since I destroyed the front tires, and bought new ones, I didn't want to wait any longer. The car feels brand new now, I wish I had done this a LONG time ago!

You are supposed to put a wrench on the rack to take the torque,,,the inner rod in the rack with the teeth on it.
