How much if any performance gain is there by removing the butterflys and shafts from the IMRC's. I know on the new mustangs there is a lot of horsepower to be had by gutting them but without all the torque of a 3 valve 4.6 is it worth it doing this on a 3.4L SHO? I need to do plugs soon and possibly coil packs so if there is a noticable gain to be had without any real ill effects I may do this at the same time. I can get one from a local salvage that has my cars twin sitting in it. Thanks..

No perfromance to be gained without a tune. Just less maintenance.

Next question, What would you fill the throttle rod holes with? JB weld?

If the butterflies are simply removed, and the rod left in place, would this be the better answer?

Mine are frozen solid, and while my hands heal from the skinning process of removing those impossible rear intake bolts, I figure I ask!!

Thanks!

You can leave them in but the total area they take up is over 3 sq " IIRC. I have used JB weld, bit messy or red silicon RTV, takes a week to properly cure.

Fla- go get a set of ratcheting box wrenches- turns the rears into a 1 minute job... You don't need to remove all 4 bolts if you did that...

Thanks JoeSHO, I used them to reinstall...Boy was much quicker!

Also, I didnt use JB weld, as it seems to watery. I used a Alum epoxy that comes in a tube. Mix together and forced in. Used a Dremel to grind smooth..

Car started right up, stumbled abit them started running fine.

Mine were lock closed, so removing them seemed the right then to do...

Changed the rear plugs as well..

Question, forgot where the vacuum tube that is directly under and to the right of the throttle body goes to!!

Car is idling to low, I assume its because this large vac tube is not sucking something properly..... I have it blocked for now...

Damn late night engine work!

Thanks

If it is the large one under the linkage it is the coolant passage out of the TB.

Thanks man, I'm losing my mind.

Well if you just hate seeing the port ***** here's what I did.

Take the hose coming out of the accordion tube (disconnect it from the Tee carefully) on the front side and run it to the top TB coolant port. Then run the bottom TB coolant port to the PCV intake back to the Tee that you disconnected the first hose from. This pulls cool fresh air from the pre TB intake though the TB coolant passages and then into the engines PCV system. :)
