So I was going to best buy yesterday to buy the third season of the greatest tv show, well one of the greatest tv shows, ever and decided, what the hey, let me see how much they have the Sirius receivers for. Well they had the Sportster Replay for 142.99 with a 30.00 rebate. So I am thinking....112.99, compared to Crutchfield 99.99 and Sirius Direct 149.99....hmmm...no shipping (I am very impatient and I HATE waiting for things I buy. I wat instant gratification. So what the ****, I bought it. Told the guy in the Audio deparment that I was going to need a couple of antenna adapters. He asks what kind of car, I tell him, he says no.

"Only GM, Nissan and Chrysler need adapters, Fords don't"

"Really? Well could you ask teh guys in the installation garage if they even HAVE any Ford antenna adapters, becasuse I am 99.9999999999% sure I need two"

"Trust me, you don't"

Needless to say, I had to go back and get the adapters

So my install begins. Have the cable for the FM Modulator running behind the trunk liner, under th back seat, under the carpet up into the center console back behind where the ashtray is. Anteanna is on the roof, cable slipped under the windshield weather stripping, down through a grommet into the dash area, out to behind where the ashtray is. Now, since I am mounting this INTO the ashtray, i cut the wiring harness off the ashtray and light and want to hard wire the unit in. I figure using the harness for the lighter, I am fused and read to go. I have the ashtray cut up into pieces and am mounting the receiver so it folds into the dash. The unit is bigger than I nitcipated with the docking station, so it is not going to sit flush. I'll get pics up when it is all finished. Should be doe today at some point.

Now for some pointers if anyone ahs them. First off, I bought the FM Modulator Relay to ahrdwire it in. My problem is that now when the sirius receiver is on, I get half of the local stations I use to. And my favorite local station, WEEI, does not come in at all. I have to turn the sirius unit off to get it. This makes no sesne to me because my GF does not have to do this with hers and she uses the wireless FM transmitter. It's not like Sirius is trying to run on the station. Sirius is set to 88.1 and my WEEI RedSox Sports Talk is 103.7. Other stations still come in such as 92.3, 94.1 and 95.5. I am going to call sirius but on their forums, someone said it is suppose to cut out all FM when you have the receiver on. Which is stupid. Maybe I am listeneing to WEEI but I want to know when the new Dierks Bentley song comes on the sattelite!

Secondly, anyone who has taken the ashtray out knows that the wiring harness has 4 wires. A common ground (2 wires, one connector within the harness) and a hot for the lighter and the light next to the lighter. I connected the power supply for the Sirius to this. I used one ground wire, and the supply for the cigarette lighter. Tied off the other two. Plug it all in and the receiver ligths up. NO dash lights, and the radio and headlights start to flicker a little. any clues?

Anyway, back to work. I have the interior of tis car apart right now

Maybe you wired it into the dimmer wire that is with all the dash lighting. That's cool you got Sirius I've been wanting to get the Eclipse sirius tuner for a while but it is expensive of course.

I just know that I hooked up my EL gauges to the wrong wire and things went hay-wire, and then found a wire that was for power. I spliced into the cigarette lighter too just like you did.

Well, I gave up on connecting via the cigarete lighter and just wired it under the steering column. That way the Sirius receiver is off when I turn the car off.

Mount is all done. I am going to do it again, just to refine it a little. But the one in there now is working great. Unit folds up and is almost invisible to the ***** eye ;) I am going to some tweaking with another assembley to have the unit tilted towrads me a liitle more and make it slightly easier to remove the recevier to use the boombox. :thumb:

I've had Sirius for the past year. It's great!

Altough, I don't run the crappy FM Transmitters. Mine is hard wired to the reciever unit. CD Quality baby!!!
