How good is the factory ignition do you think. While a distributorless igniton with 8 coils seems ideal, does it work ideally?

Also I've noticed Mustang coils look awfully similar except the bracket with the holes and are 15-20 dollars cheaper?

And the Crown Vic coils very close to the SHO almost except the price?

I'm not saying there the same but the Stang and Crown VIc coils sure look it?

The wire plug won't work for the rear bank. Needs to sit flat. IIRC.

Could be wrong though.

Right, that is why the SHO coils have the mounting holes on the top of the coil body.

OK, kinda off center here... But i have been lolling something around my head for about a week now. Is there an easy way to convert the sequential spark of the SHO V8's to a wasted spark ala my old 1996 Crown Vic P71? First i must ask, when a cylinder in a 60 degree V8 is at its power stroke is there a companion cylinder on it's exaust stroke? as in a 90 degree V8 would. If so then i think i could make it work.

All this comes about in the fact that i have to replace some Coils (yes plural) in my car. the orginals save 1 are still there. So 10 years i think it did a good job. But i still have the ford 4-tower style MSD coils from my P71. and i think i can get the 4.6 spark plug wires to fit in the spark plug tubes in the SHO.

as for the wiring that will not be an issue as i know how the 4-tower coil works. But am i way off base here or does this have a little merrit?

Personally I don't have an issue with the coils. Compared to the V6 SHO the V8 is relatively low maintenance. I just bit the bullet and got eight new coils and am done with it.

Well I see your point about only having to replace the coils once in a blue moon being less work.

However it's not less money they just raised the price of the coils at several big names. They were 60-70 now are 75-80.Ouch thats 6 bills for coils.

But there really isn't that much other maintenance to the car assuming the easy things are done. You will find the aftermarket later improved OEM coils are more durable anyway.

I usually suggest getting 4 new ones for the back then you can play musical coils with the front with the used ones easily.

I hear you but what I'm saying is they are overpriced Huge at 70-80 per. That Accel coil is the same thing just slightly different mounting .Obviously it's the low production of these motors.Hence my suggestion of a cheaper alternative.

That's a fact. But you won't find cheaper. You can use other ones for the front but they may not fit under the IRMC box or be able to use the front cover.
