Well seeing as how I just chewed through my second coil in as many weeks and just stole 1 original and 3 NEW coils out from under the nose of the JY, I have a question.

When your coils failed, which ones were they? I keep killing cyl. 6, which is directly below the IRCM.

I'm thinking that for some reason my coils are getting heat soaked cause of being stuck underneith the box-o-death.

So, which coils have you had to replace???

When I cleaned the intake #1 and #6 were new Ford replacements. So I put both of them in the back bank, and two from the front. So hopefully if any go bad (knock on wood) it'll be the old ones from the back now up front.

EDIT: Yea it was #6 under the IMRC box.

I have NO business posting in here, as I will most certainly jinx myself. Anyways, for the price of say, 6 coils, one could purchase a CF cowl hood, which will GREATLY reduce the high underhood temps, thus prolonging the life of the coils, theoretically, of course.
Box-O-death :laugh_ti:
Kirk swapped mine (front to back) at roughly 80,000 miles. Now at 112,000.

How dramatic is the underhood temperature difference between the two?

I showed about a 15 degree improvement. In stop and go traffic, when it gets really hot, one little burst down the road will bring temps back down to HIGHWAY temp range, whereas with the stock hood, once you get the engine bay HOT (stop_n-go, etc...) the temp STAYS up.

I'm curious to know if and how much the cowl hood changes the aerodynamics of the GenIII, a trait that body style is known for. I wonder if you get less down force with one installed?

I know I will probably get flamed for this but there is always a lot of talk about the efforts ford when through to make the Gen III's shape. How much down force does this car really require? I have driven my SHO with both the SHO and SLO spoilers at speeds over 140 for extended periods of time. I have not noticed a diffrence at ALL... Zero. I think the only problem you would have is keeping the Cowl hood from coming off the car when traveling at high speeds... my .02:type:
