Well, I just got my car back after it was at Ford getting serviced for 9 days! I was driving how today and the ABS light came on. I drove home, jiggled the ABS controller and now it's just fine. I start the car 10min latter, the battery light comes on and the battery is bubbling. I restart the car a few times and everything is back to normal. Could this all be because the battery was unhooked from the computer for such a long time? Thanks for any help!

My car did the very same thing... accererate hard and you get warning lights galore. Not to mention the EATC flickering. New alt and it's all good.

Our idiot lights just come on randomly when we start driving. it all started with the check engine light that came on after we got a new starter. Ever since the climate control, the idiot lights, and the fog lights dont work right. I wrote about it in the 'Climate COntrol Problems' thread. Thanks.

raodbratt, the CHECK ENGINE light is not an idiot light, but a very smart and helpful diagnostic tool. If it has illluminated, there is something worng in the engine control system that needs your attention. To find out exactly what it is trying to tell you just learn to read the codes with a simple jumper and your ignition key. Go here for the test instructions and code descriptions.

If your CHECK ENGINE light is on, but is dim, you have a power or a ground connection problem for the computer.

If the CHECK ENGINE light is on at normal intensity or is flashing, follow Scott's instructions.

As your problems reportedly started after the starter was replaced, I would give special attention to the main ground cable from the battery that mounts to one of the starter mounting bolts. These have been known to corrode inside the insulation and cause problems, especially in starting.

If you have the dim CE light, check the separate PCM ground cable that runs from the negative side of the battery terminal, through its connector and to ground.
