Idea for a bumper mod.

Lately I've been regressing and obsessing over 2nd gens.

One thing that always bugged me about the Taurus was how far the bumper sticks out. I also like the way the SLO corners look on the SHO, which is why I used this picture as a reference.

I think the bumper cover could be modified to achieve this look, but I do wonder about the bumper itself. The Gen 1 cars appear to have less bumper protrusion on them. Is this true, or is it just an optical illusion caused by the car being more boxy? If it is true, is the gen 1 bumper compatible with the gen 2? If not, any ideas on how to retrofit another bumper?

One more thing I should add. This is where I got the idea from.



It almost looks like he removed the entire bumper and just put on the cover.

The gen II bumper consists of a plastic "box-beam" mounted on the 2 front collision shocks.
The collision shock's front ****** is about 3 1/2" from the mounting point on the frame rail / rad saddle.
The plastic box beam is about 7" "thick" in front of the collision shocks and the box beam curves with the thickest part another inch or so out front, at the middle of the car.
So there is lots of room to shorten the structural parts of the nose to make it look more like the Gen I.
The problem is, the cover is one mammoth wobbly piece of plastic that simply snaps onto the bottom of the box beam and the top mates to the rad saddle / header panel. That big piece would have to be altered; and you would need some abilities with that plastic material to reshape it.
