Can the relays act up when they get hot from all the heat under the hood, but are fine when it's cold?

Yes the coil windings may open up when hot but be closed when cool if damaged. This can be checked with an ohm meter.

Thank you!

One more question though, can the relays still work when hot but have a delay? My fans don't kick on until it's between the N and the line before the red, once the under hood temps are high. Before that, it works fine and the temp stays around the R.

Once the coil windings are open due to a break and the expansion from heat I do not think they would work until it cooled down. You can test the fans relay system with the KOEO test.

DO you know what the actual temperature is when the fans kick on? It should be 210F or so. And when stopped with the A/C compressor on.

You will notice on the OEM temp gauge there are no numbers. This is for a reason. The sender's resistance will change over time and consequently so will the actual gauge reading.

Thanks Paul!

Looks like I need to go buy one of those laser deals that read the temp. I only know what the guage reads, and that is very high.

The fans don't kick on until above the N and goes off right before hitting the top of the N. I already replaced the sending unit, so that should not be faulty. Although, I have had another member tell me about the unit in the instrument cluster. I guess I should swap with the parts car and see, when time allows.

Also, there is a nice cloud of heat around the engine bay, when you open the hood, unlike my mtx sho's.

Things I've done: T-stat, back flushed 3 times, cleaned the reservoir and line, radiator cap, ect sensor, and sending unit.

I was trying to see what else there is before replacing the fan motors, radiator, and pcm. All of which is sitting in the trunk from the parts car.

One thing I do is when flushing the motor is unhook the upper radiator hose. Then letting the motor idle you can insert a regular thermometer into the hose and watch the temps as the t-stat opens and closes.
