it's way out. My ATX that is. The ATX in my 95 made a relatively uneventful trip rather crappy. I was driving down 93 through Boston when instead of moving, the car sits for a second, the tach revs up and then slams into gear, giving me whiplash. It did this s few times on the road. From a stop it's slamming into second on upshifts and downshifts. Also it seems to hold gears much longer than it should. At higher speeds it ok, but it feels rough. At some speeds it feels like the tranny is searching for a gear. I had cruise control before this all started to happen and haven't tried it since it started doing this. I seemed to lose VAPS for second too at one time. I had posted a question about the ATX going out, but got replies saying it was ok and had been driving fine for weeks before this. It just happened all of a sudden. I've searched this topic, but want to see what you guys thought from me giving you my symptoms. If it's time to rebuild, I'm getting out of the SHO business. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have a 95 ATX also..and am crossing my fingers hoping my doesn't go out anytime soon..has 133k on her..Anyways, as I said I haven't had these problems, but from what i have observed from reading other posts, you could just of had your VSS go out (vehicle speed sensor)..tells the computer when and what gear to shift and so on. It is just a possiblily, and hopefully the problem, but it is also a psosiblity that you might need a rebuild.

I don't understand. You apparently know the symptoms of a failing VSS. Why don't you check to see if that is the problem? To check the codes look in my sig. There is a link at the bottom.

I didn't know if the VSS threw a CEL light. After searching about both, there was mixed results about a rebuild or VSS. That's why I asked about it before I did anything else. Do these symptoms sound more like a tranny on the way out or a VSS problem?

I have a '93 atx and my speed sensor was broken. I did not have any of the symptoms you described. I just replaced the VSS and the tranny shifts smoother, but only poor shift before while VSS was out was a little bit of a harsh shift into first - but not terrible. Your tranny sounds like its dying to me - but I AM NOT AN EXPERT PERIOD. You might want to look at the linkage from from the throttle body.
