Within the last week I've started getting what feels like a TCC shudder in 3rd/4th gear. Busy as **** at work and life, and need to scan it, but no CEL, and I just replaced the plugs and swapped out my MSD coils back to the OEM tonight and it feels better, but fairly sure it's still there (tomorrow's drive will be the tell all). I've noticed on hard acceleration it's non existent, 1,2,5,6 gears feel good. Just wanted to check in and see if any of you have experienced this. Gear head AO tune that I've had for years, 140,000 on the clock, and trans fluid change is way over due. Any specific pids other than TCC that I should look at?

Thanks,
MB

hard acceleration holds each gear longer. torque converter shudder should only happen at cruising speeds/where overdrive is engaged/supposed to be engaged. easy to check with a tube or two of lubegard shudder fixx.

fluid level/condition check first. important to rule out any hardware breakdown.

axles can also cause undiagnosed shudders. if they are the culprit, only use motorcraft axles. any other brand tends not to last.

and of course you know about the 3-5-R problem as outlined in the ssm. not sure what the progression of that is, but putting it on the table.

We'll see how the ride into work goes, regardless I'm going to change the fluid tonight as I haven't touched it in about 90k. I was also curious about the lubegard product, I'm guessing it's a type of friction modifier for the transmission/tcc clutches. I'm betting against the snap ring at this point, back in the day I did a handful of those and it was pretty much an immediate catastrophic failure. Looks like I'm doing an 8hr day today and taking the time for my vehicle...you guys really need to ease up on the travel and give those of us in the fleet world a break.

I guess transmission fluid changes on this particular transaxle is more important than I've given it credit for. 6 qt drain and refill + 1 tube of the friction modifier and the issue was instantly gone. Drove it for a day and did another 3 qt drain and refill just to further replace. My drain was clean, just slightly dark and no partials or burn smell, but over time I guess the additives in the fluid break down. It's such a simple process to drain and refill that I really feel like a ****** for not doing it on a regular basis. I drew off a sample to send to Blackstone just to get a feeling for what takes place. All good now, just wanted to share the experience and put it out there that even though the fluid may physically look and smell good, on another level it must be breaking down.

Yeah. I used to do the 5 out and 5 in every other oil change. The 6f55 is pretty sensitive to fluid cleanliness. After I had the 3-5-R drum retaining ring failure, I became really **** about the fluid swaps. The funny thing about it, I was mistaking wheel hop for shudder on hard acceleration/launchs with the stock tq mounts and original trans. My transmission failed after a hard freeway pull with SRT8 Charger.

After I replaced the transmission, I had actual wheel hop. You could see it on the street. Once I put in Tony's mounts, that completely went away.
