My '93 SHO is in desperate need of rear suspension job (struts/springs/mounts) and I have located some parts:

Ford Struts: $55/each
Ford Mounts: $26/each

I found that my springs code is EMT (heavy duty). My uncle who is the parts manager at a Ford Dealership said that he called the place where he gets his parts and they do not believe they make those springs anymore. They told him it will take a week to find out if they can obtain a set and he said I'm going to pay out the ass even with his discount.

Can anyone recommend any alternatives for springs rather than (Eibach, Intrax or Ford)? I stopped at a place that sells Moog parts but they only list springs for a sedan or a wagon (NO SHO Listing). The parts guy said the regular springs will work.....is this correct???

Any help is very much appreciated!

P.S. I priced some Monroe Sensa Trac struts and mounts. These seem to be cheaper than Ford parts.....has anyone used these Monroe struts????

The EMT is the code for the rear springs. For the front you would need either HEC or KMO, as I recall. Moog does make cargo coils, and springs for the SHO, although it may only be for the rear. NAPA can get them. Here are part nos.:
Front:
Napa Cargo Springs #277-5235
Moog Cargo Springs #CC-858

Rear Coils:
Napa Cargo Springs #277-5216
Moog Cargo Coils #CC-859

If you dont get Eibach/Tokico, you will wish you did. I replaced with stock, but after 2 years, problems again, so got the quality parts, no problems, rides way better, handles way better, even towed a small U Haul, no problems and rear did not go down.

Don't forget that while several people are using the Moog springs as replacements successfully so far, I believe when a person from Moog was contacted about using those in a SHO it was not recommended.

I'm not saying they won't work, just that opposition has been reported from inside the company. AFAIK.

Well,
I think I may have ****** up. I went to the local Advanced Auto Parts and gave them the part number CC-859. Their computer shows this as a cargo coil spring for $59/pr. I picked up the springs today and the box doesn't say Moog....it says TRW with the part number CC-859.

Anyone know if these are the correct springs???

I checked it with their online computer inventory and it does show it as a spring for a '93 Taurus but it says (GL;LX;Sedan). I just need it to bring the rear end of the car up. It is sagging so bad its not funny. It wasn't horribly noticeable until I went to 225/50/16 tires. Now there is a huge gap in the front wheel well and not in the back.

Check the website. They could be the same but that would be odd since Moog and TRW are different mfg.'s. I'm fairly sure they aren't under the same parent company: Moog is Federal Mogul and I think TRW is owned by Northrop Grumman.

The TRW label on the box said something about Federal Mogul. The Ford struts and mounts are on their way and I'll probably tackle the job next weekend. I'll report back with my results. I thought that I had heard somewhere TRW makes certain suspension parts for Ford.

I don't think I'd worry much, Shoboy. A few people have been using these cargo coils with success. I don't think I'd race them or anything, but for general use they will be fine. They definitely fix the saggy-bottom look.

Well, the best explanation to my driving style would be: Pedal to the floor and not a corner I can't take less than 70mph. Although, I've been spoiled driving my AWD Subaru SVX and my Thunderbird Super Coupe. Now that I bought the SHO back I'll have to get use to driving a big family sedan. Although my sister in-laws '99 Taurus SE with 92K and the stock suspension handles fine....nothing like the SVX but far from a minivan/SUV.

I'd get just the rear Eibachs for now, and having better springs will end the sagging. You can get front Eibachs later if you like.
