I need some help, my car has been pretty much sitting for the past nine months, i'm pretty sure it's developing some problems, seeing how i'm new with these cars, I would like someone who knows what there talking about to look at my car. All I want is for someone to come out to my place and take a look at it. Give me some pointers on what to do. I live in Redford Michigan. On the corner of seven mile and Beech daly. Please I need some help really bad. If you want just reply to this thread or send me a PM. Thanks guys, I would really appreciate this.

I don't know, there's a ticking sound on the belts side, my friend thinks it's my timing chain. It's not very loud but you can here where it's coming from. Plus it's idles really rough now, i mean i just started it and it didn't but some times it bogs down and then i hit the gas it takes a second to rev back up. I thought it was my fuel pump but it's not. Or at least I don't think so.

First of all, go check your trouble codes... it's REALLY easy :thumb:

http://www.shophoenixproject.com/eec/eec.htm

The only timing chains on a SHO are the chains that connect the cams together, and they aren't really "timing" chains. That and they're also on the other side of the engine from the drive belts, so a bad timing chain definitely isn't your problem.

Your timing belt may have slipped just a bit, or if the belt is in the process of coming apart I suppose it could make a ticking noise and cause your car to run rough. More likely I'd say you're hearing some valve lash clatter combined with a separate issue with your idling. Follow the link above to check engine codes then get back with us :thumb:

And I just took it out and my car is acting really wierd, it feels like the trans is slipping, but I thought only automatics slip, I'm really starting to get fusterated  I love this car and I don't want to get rid of it, but i can't afford to dump money in it. What Do I Do?

If you can get the car to me I'd be happy to check it out, but unfortunately I don't have time right now to get to you.

As for the codes, are you certain you have the plug jumpered correctly? Do you get any CE flashes at all? If you're sure you jumpered the plug correctly and still no codes you could very well have a bad computer. That would certainly have an effect on how the car runs & behaves.

Double check then triple check your connections for checking the codes. If you don't get any CE flashes at all a replacement computer may be in order.

Reading them is simple. You count the flashes and write them down. You have a 93, so your computer will be giving you 3 digit codes.

Ok, you jumper the EEC, get in the car with pen and paper ready, and you turn the key on (but don't start the car). This will start the KOEO test.

You'll hear different sensors clicking, the electric fan will kick on, etc. Watch the CE light... it will likely flicker a little bit but don't count this as a flash. Just keep watching, because once you see this flicker you're just a second or two away from the first batch of trouble codes.

From here on out, just count the flashes you see. The flashes will occur in groups of 3, with a short pause between groups. For example, the code 214 would go like this:

[blink] [blink] (2)
short pause of about 3/4 a second.
[blink] (1)
short pause....
[blink] [blink] [blink] [blink] (4)

The computer will list all trouble codes it finds in numerical order. It will go through all the codes once, and then it will repeat them. So if you have 3 codes, we'll say (172, 211 and 542) it will blink out 172, then 211, then 542. After 542, it will go back and blink the sequence again.

That's the KOEO test & codes... once it is done you will have a long pause of a second or two with no flashes, then you'll get a single flash followed by another long pause of 1-2 seconds. That single flash is called a separator flash, and it's there to separate the KOEO codes from the codes stored in memory. You may have quite a few of these codes; anytime your car does something to set a CE light it will store a code in memory. The process for writing down these codes is the same as the KOEO codes. The codes are in groups of three... count the flashes and write down the number. The codes will repeat just like the KOEO codes.

It's not hard... all you need to do is be able to count & write :) Go back the link I gave you above and look at the sample CE light. That's exactly how it will look on your car, and that's the speed at which the codes come at you. Just have a pen & paper handy so you can write down the flashes.

I have also tried to get my codes but can not. My question to you fellow owners is: when you start your car, do all the lights light up in the console including the engine light? If so, my engine light is burned out and that's why I can't get my codes. Maybe this is your problem too.

Thanks,
Chris

I live at Ford and Inkster, I could swing by sometime this week and poke around for you.

That would be really cool. I'll send you a PM with details on how to get to my place. Thanks

Ok I got them today. It flashed 3 times slowly, then it did it again 3 times slowly, and then it did it 1 time and it paused for like 3 seconds, then it flashed 5 pretty quick, paused, 4 pretty quick, paused, and then it flashed 2 pretty quick, and then it did it again. so i looks like the code is 542, what dose it mean? Thanks

Sounds like your first code is 111, which means all clear. The second code of 542 is a common code that people find in memory. In worst case scenarios it could indicate a bad fuel pump, but 9 times out of 10 it's a false code, as that code gets set anytime your car stalls out.

So basically, the codes don't seem to indicate any problem
