Shogansta, I have a '97 with a pretty atypical exhaust. I have the Borla cat-back kit and the 3rd cat is replaced by a small, single chamber Flowmaster race muffler. I dont use a resinator or any other mufflers and the sound is extremely aggressive and refined. I realize that loud is not what you are shooting for but unique is always good. My suggestion to you is to call Borla directly and puchase the cat-back kit( when I ordered mine, I got it @ 1/2 price because they had'nt sold one in years!) The mufflers included in the kit are very similar to magnaflow and the resinator is practically a bullet muffler. The kit is unique in that it splits into 2 seperate pipes shortly after the resinator unlike the factory setup. If you want deep V8 sound without rasp and noise, I would delete the 3rd cat and run the Bola kit. Also- Borla claims 12-18hp with the kit and combined without a 3rd cat, 20hp is possible. I tend to disregaurd hp claims but this is realistic.

I went with Flowmaster 50 series, in stainless steel. The OEM mufflers will never rust or wear out, so if you want a change, you just have to hack them out. I have a pair of 2.5" mufflers with black chrome oval tips, similar to OEM but a little bigger. Nice quiet almost-rumble at idle, and a very nice tone when you get on it.

While stainless steel won't rust, it will still corrode. Plus, you still have the issue of the welds. It's not unusual for muffler shops to weld on stainless mufflers using mild steel wire, resulting in the welds rotting out and the nice pretty stainless mufflers falling off.

Does Borla still stocks these kits? They show no part number for the Gen 3 SHO on their website so how did you get yours? Thanks for any help.

If he got a kit for half price directly from Borla, then I think I'll go with that. FPS might be a sponsor, but they are very overpriced on their parts IMO. Plus I had a bad and costly experience with them in the past and I would rather not repeat it.

Actually, the Flowmaster stainless mufflers are a dull gray out of the box.

The bullets are bright shiny SS. And yes if they don't use SS welding wire that will be the weak point. I had one muffler break loose befor it at the weld and both tips fall off.

i gots to say, I do love my borlas, whether or not there is a significant gain. Myself and my roommate can attest to me going up the mountains here in CO a lot easier. and man they sound sweet.

Magnaflows for about 300 dollars are super. These are the muffs you need on a V8 SHO.
