Hey guys, I'm currently looking at a '95 ATX that's about four hours away from me. The car appears to be in great condition for its age. The previous owner did plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, and ignition coils. The only problem is that it still runs a little ruff and drinks a ton of gas. He is almost positive that it's the O2 sensors that need to be replaced. Could it be something as simple as that or something more expensive to fix? Thanks for the help!

How many miles? I wonder if the timing belt has been changed...
Ask him if it is throwing any codes. Cats could be clogged up too. Hard to say without much info...

It has 150K he said. I'm waiting for him to call me back so I can get some more info from him and the rest of the pictures.

Too bad that since he is so sure that is the cure, that he doesn't do it.
If they have the emission testing in that state..... have him run it through as a condition of sale.
It is either the O2 sensors or the timing belt tensioner is weak and the timing belt has skipped a tooth.
If the price is right and you plan on doing the front 60K then proceed.
If it is top dollar and you don't want to fix anything, then keep looking.

Nope, Alabama doesn't require emission testing. I can probably get the car for 2k, so a front 60k wouldn't be a big deal to me price wise. I'm considering just going to see it in person and just lose a tank of gas. If I like it, I buy it, if not I can keep looking.

2k is pretty steep for a 95 atx with those issues..... you might want to come out to Denver, there are several listed on CL for less with less issues.

The car is going in my dad's name and he refuses to go further than a few hours away for one. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have a problem finding one. After hearing all of this I think I might just wait a bit and see what else pops up. ATX's are fairly easy to come across.

I would wait. If it's as simple as O2 sensors, he would have done it. May be clogged cats; just a rough guess.

Got pictures of the SHO today. It needs a headliner and a good cleaning. My dad prefers me to get a blazer he found (see my brother's thread flaming me in the "general chit-chat" section). I'm hoping I can negotiate the price down significantly and get me a decent clean running SHO. Wish me luck!

I'm going to try and pick it up for $1,500. If so I can dump a few hundred into it and get it back to where it should be mechanically and cosmetically. I hope to have a decent SHO in the end.

Usually, $2000.00 buys you a SHO with only 1 identifiable problem. Your problem is not identified, and depending on your luck, and order of installation, may take cats, front 60 and 02 sensors to solve (or not). The only thing going for it is, it is being driven continuously, and you don't have to bring it back from the dead. On this car, the condition of the automatic is critical, and that requires a test drive with someone who knows what it should feel like.
Make sure you love this car if you buy it, because that love will be tested.

I've decided not to get the green one. Zach, there is one in the Atlanta area I am looking at for $1500, but it also has some idling issues. He has replaced all of the main parts so my brother and I think it's a DIS or a coil pack. Any other suggestions. I could PM you think link if you would like.
