Whats up guys,
My 95 SHO is giving me some problems, #1 when I'm driving the car in 4th or 5th gear the just shuts off and dies. Its like the fuel is cutoff, also I have noticed it take 2-3 trys to start so this is leading me to believe I need to start at the fuel pump and filters and go from there. (Novice time/question)....Is the fuel pump located near or on the fuel tank or is it mounted elsewhere and if need be can it be changed bt me with help. Then the car can sit for anywhere from 5-20 minute and then it starts right up like nothin ever happened. This happens at 30 MPH or 70MPH#2 I noticed while my SHO is having difficulties on the throttle body where the cable from the gas pedal it is a 4 wire braided cable it is holding on my 2 strands....Help!!! Can I buy a new cable and do the replacement myself with basic tools and no garage and 100 degree temps. Is it a tough fix does the car need to be elevated. Thanks and any and all suggestions are greatly appreiciated.

Ok here are a couple of things:

First to answer your question, the fuel filter is under the car on the passenger side just under the passenger rear door. Just follow the fuel line and you will see it. Very easy to change, but probably not your problem.

Your problem describes 1 of 2 things right off the bat: either a fuel pump going bad in all this heat, or your CPS is old and starting to go. Did you try pulling the codes?

2 things that will help you diagnose the next time this happens are a fuel pressure gauge and a trained eye. The next time it quits, look at the Tach when you start cranking it over trying to start it. A faulty CPS will be evident if your tach reads zero when you are cranking. If the CPS is ok, then the Tach will read above zero (like 300 rpm).

The second thing you can try right away is go have your helper turn the key to the on position while you are under the hood checking the pressure going to the fuel rail. Key on fuel pressure should be 30 psi at the rail for that 1.5 seconds the pump turns on prior to start. That is if the fuel pum is coming on. What I have noticed is that the fuel pump in Phoenix gets really hot and whines loudly and puts out very little pressure.

Give it a shot and let us know what you come up with.

As to the throttle cable, I have the same problem. Frayed lines on the cable but only 2 are broken now.

I definately vote CPS for the first problem.
As for the cable...soldering, JBwelding, or duct taping is always an option  :bonk:

I would steer clear of any such treatment to the throttle cable. You see, any type of weld or tape to repair a frayed cable will create resistance resulting in a potentially dangerous situation where you take your foot off the gas and the pedal stays on the floor. Get thee to a junk yard and buy a new cable.

CPS Cost

Any suggestions on where I should start to look to buy the CPS short of going online, Pepboys, Autozone. Is this a common part on newer cars....How about a figure on cost....Do I need to give up my second born....."The man ain't getting my first born"....lol

I was actually being sarcastic about the throttle cable...I'm as cheap as they come, and even I wouldn't do that :)

Yeah, I got my CPS from Autozone, but it was a couple dollars more (and yes, that was beofre tax :p).
