problems with my abs, i bought the car about a week ago and the light wasn't on until i really had to use them  but it had sat for about 2 months before it was sold? i wondering if it isn't the relay? which side of the abs computer is the relay on from the front of the car? also the brake petal is really not there. u have to pump the brakes to get any stoping power and if u pump it to much the front drivers side tire locks up.

another more positive possiblity i thought might be the brake booster? what would one cost and where the **** is it at? cause everything is sure cramed in the small space!!!!

iam if iam this far, iam going to take off the intake and clean it, and i was wondering how much further do u have to go to shim the valves? i have never done it before but my dad and i live on the farm and have overhauled every engine on the farm that need to be. so iam sure that will come in handy to working.
thanks

It's really going to be hard to give an exact problem for a couple of reasons. What happened when the light came on? We'll need more details. There are a lot of things that can cause the ABS light to come one. One thing that can cause it are bad sensors at the wheels. You may also have a loss of brake fluid pressure which could be caused by a leak. Do you see any fluid leaking from anywhere?

I'd check other things like calipers, brake lines, sensors, etc. first. Also make sure that your master cyl. is full of brake fluid. Your system may need some good fresh fluid and a good bleeding as there may be air in the lines. Try that before you move onto the more expensive "fixes" that may or may not work.

Once you have the intake off you're almost to the valves & shims. All that's left is to take the valve covers off and you'll see them. They (the shims) are located in the valve buckets under each cam lobe. Make sure you're familiar with the proceedure to adjust each valve and what the specs are for the intake and exhaust valves. If done properly it will make a big difference, if done improperly....(we don't want to go there)

Hope this helps a bit.

i went to use my ebrake today and i noticed that i went all the way to the floor. If there is no brakes in the rear would that case the anti lock light to come on?

Edit...Question...no ebrake in the rear or no brakes period in the rear?

I had my ebrake disconnected for a long time and no ABS light.

The pedal going to the floor means that either your ebrake cables are not connected or that they are broken or cut off. You could end up having problems if the ebrake return spring isn't connected to the caliper and your ebrake cable is in tact and connected. If that's the case then pulling the release lever won't fully disengage the ebrake. That can be a problem.

If you have the means to read the codes that would help out alot. There are two relays under the hood drivers side one on the fwd wheel well apron one between the ABS computer and the engine. They can corrode and loose contact. One is for the abs power one is for the abs motor.
