Recently my IMRC cable snapped so I took everything apart to delete the butterflies. I just drilled them out and left the rail in place. I cleaned the fuel injectors and replaced all of the o rings when refitting them. I just got everything back together and the car starts up fine but fuel just pours out around the fuel pressure regulator. I did not remove it from the rail, could it be a bad fpr or bad O rings on the fpr? My first thought was that I missed a vacuum hose but everything looks to be in place.

I ordered and installed a new FPR with new orings and this solved the issue of the FPR leaking. I am having more issues now...

The car doesn't want to start, I have to give it gas and a few crank attempts. Once it does start it seems to run and idle fine. The other weird little thing I noticed was that when turning the key to the ON position I hear a popping sound coming from near the throttle body. I drove the car around the block and it seemed to drive okay but not quite the same. I pulled the codes P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit low input and P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire. When I got back to my garage there was smoke seeping from the thermostat housing and from the pipe in the front of the car underneath the heat shield wrap. The engine temperature gauge was in normal range and I was keeping a close eye on it. I am not quite sure what is causing most of these issues but I guess I have to take off the surge tank again to test the cylinder 1 coil pack. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on here?
